Sounds like maybe the main computer is bad. When you cranked the engine there is not any indication that it is firing. If you have changed the fuel pump and coil and it still wont even fire, the computer is most likely the cause. Even if the timming was off you would still get some indication that it was trying to start although it probably would not if the timming was off, but the fact it's not even trying to fire yeah that's my take.

The fuel pump will only run until it gets up to pressure

How can I get it up to pressure

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2013

You need to check the timing belt. I noticed the engine sounded a little off while cranking. this car has a tining beld as well as a balancer belt . you will need to change both if bad. It has been a while since I wouked on one of thiese models butI thing there is a cover on the passenger side of the engine you can easily remove to check the belt. Some have a plug in the timing cover you can remove an ssee of the timing gear is turning. If you get a HAYNES repair manual you will save a lot of time and money by not throwing money at an unknown problem. good luck.

It shuts off when up to pressure and that is what you said it was doing on the video. Sorry for the spelling. I find I can not edit these posts before posting. Mark D. 30 years mechanic and Jack of all Trades...and still running a small shop at home.

Why you change fuel pump,I would change fuel filter first.you change coil, could be module and tune up.Check battery and connection ,battery should be 12.5V.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 vw

  • Hi, I can help.

  • The fuel pump relay is 4th over on the very bottom row of the relay panel under the hood. This can be the pump too. The pump holds pressure and when the back pressure switch fails the car won't start. Or the pump could just be out period. The fuel filter can do this too.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

the best way is to, swap it with another relay ( the same as the fuel pump one) and see if it works.

SOURCE: chevrolet Tacuma Won't Start ??

First, I suggest you take it to someone who knows what they are doing. You take it to a shop for xyz problem and they charge you for fixing the problem, it should be fixed, period. First thing I always do is pull fault codes if the vehicle is equipped with ECU before servicing or removing the battery. Providing what you provided is true.. it turns fine without hesitation, fuel is getting to engine. Many things can cause it not to start, bad ECU, bad wiring, bad injectors, bad sensors, including air flow sensors like MAF, oil pressure switch. It most likely is electrical. Any car with OBD should give a read out of all the sensors.. with proper equipment. And hopefully contain a stored code of the problem... a computer with a actual OBD connection & software is needed for advanced troubleshooting not hand held units like you find at auto parts stores. I would say your best beat is Air/O2/Oil pressure sensors. A experienced master technician should be able to key in on the problem quickly.

SOURCE: 2002 saturn sl won't start, turn over but won't start

If the engine fires up for a second or two with starting fluid then the fuel pump is weak.I would check the fuel pressure and if its not within the specs then replace the pump and filter.

How do you test the fuel pump relay on a 1991 Toyota Celica 1.6 Car just died and won't crank. We changed the ignition coil and still won't crank. Fuel pump is working. Toyota place does not check...

If the car will not crank then you have a battery, cable or starter issue. If the car will crank but not start then the problem may be the fuel pump relay. There should be an electrical diagram on the side of the relay. Apply 12v to either side of the coil and you should here a click. Then check for continuity between the other two terminals with voltage applied. If you have no continuity then the relay is bad.

Fuel pump will not come on i wired direct now fuel pump comes on car still wont start checked fire and changed computer what is the problem

check the fusible link #4, probably in the engine compartment in a box. If good, check the MFI relay. If that relay has more than 4 terminals, it may be hard to test. Not sure how much it costs, but you can carefully open it to see if both relays click on when you try to start the engine. If you have questions, please let me know.

No power to fuel pump 1990 eagle talon tsi awd turbo 5 speed. checked all fuses and ecu for damage and all seems fine, new fuel pump so i know thats the the problem the mpi/mfi relay is not clicking when...

I hope this helps? Are you missing anything else? Engine cranking you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse? Any applicable trouble codes? Battery has a full charge? See load side of mfi relay, that line with arrow head, with key on, good voltage at upper wire? If so, if you use a jumper wire between proper wire colors, the pump should run.

1999 Lincoln continential will not start

I would first, change the spark plugs only if they were in the motor, say three years and 50,000. Not just to fix a misfire
Second you can only change a COP Coil, if you have a code or a way of knowing which one is bad. Again, why would you change all of them, when they all now work?
Crank Sensors rarely fail,so what test did you do to determine that was necessary?
Also.how would you know ,you had a missing coil, if you had no crank signal?
Now lets go from where you are now
Did you check fuel pressure,key-on ,eng off, with a pressure gauge?
Fuel filter fairly new?
Do you have all the ducting from the air cleaner to throttle body on and no vacuum leaks?
Do you have the MAF sensor connected. No signal,no start!!

Let me know what help you need
