This worked for me on 2008 Mk5 Golf, after the rear passenger door would not open fro outside or inside.
Hold the inside door latch open and keep it extended, then with the key fob open and close the door locks (still holding the inside latch open). Keep locking and unlocking the door, then it made a kluck and it released.

Does it open from the outside once you have manually opened it from the inside.

i had a similar problem on the front doors .after taking it to a garage for a quote £ 180 i read into it and there are micro swithches in the locks so with a gentle tap with the hand the door unlocks . hope this helps it saved me the money

just take time and a light. open down the rear seat and look to see where the screw is to turn on and off the child lock then try and turn it to the off position. may be remove the door rubber as well to give more room. just give it time u bwill manage to get it

I take it this a normal key not a electronic one, normal key has teeth, get some powered graphite from the parts store, hold open the little key entry door on lock, spray in graphite(plenty),move key in and out of lock until smooth, more graphite, put key in lock, gently turn key side to side, more graphite, work the lock, everything should loosen up, never use liquid lubricants on locks
