I too have had the warning on the dash indicating: "GAS CAP". It is a generic code for anything to do with the fuel cap, filler hose, or overflow, including the charcoal cannister evaporative recovery system. Sometimes it is an easy fix, to simply replace the gas cap. If people consistently twist the cap past the point where it clicks, after closing = it can wear out the cap, and prevent a good seal. However, a large majority of people have overfilled their tank too many times and the evaporative cannister is full and the overflow line is clogged or kinked. Start with the cheap solution first, gas cap.
My problem started after running the extreme obstacle course at Daytona Beach Jeep Beach 2013 at which point I pulled the cannister off the bottom and had to replace it. There are no skid plates protecting it and it would be easy for sticks etc. to get jammed up in and around that cannister while even mildly off road. Crawl under and follow the filler hose down from the passenger rear of the vehicle. The charcoal cannister is approx the size of 2 loaves of bread and sits just forward of the axle, next to the drive shaft.
Good luck.

SOURCE: code scan: P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected

Code P0301 is a generic OBD Code for Misfire. It also indicates you have a misfire in the #1 Cylinder. I would start by checking the plug wire to make sure its clean and on all the way (at the coil as well). Then if that doesnt help I would pull the plug out and check the condition of the spark plug. hopefully this will give you some direction. Thanks for Using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC

SOURCE: 99 jeep wrangler 4.0 backfires and hesitates

Fairly common problem. Typical scenario is start vehicle, runs fine for 15 to 30 seconds and begins to backfire when placed under load as customer tries to drive vehicle. Flooring usually makes the problem go away. Usually does not throw a code.

Fix is to replace the upstream 02 sensor.

SOURCE: Engine light comes on 2003 Jeep grand cherokee laredo

Check the Fuel Pump Relay, it may be malfunctioning and need replaced. Also, in some vechicles, if the batter is disconnected and reconnected, the service engine light will come on from time to time, going off and on simultaneously. Have a diagnostics done to see if any codes show up. If no codes appear, then have them all cleared and drive for another 200 miles. Sometimes the computer will need to be cleared a couple times before the light will stay off. Make sure that all fuses and relays are good, and securey in place. Check all factory installed lights to make sure they are good, and securly in place as well.

SOURCE: 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.7 hemi vehicles hesitates

The egr valve is located on the front of the right cylinder head. It has a tube attached to it and going to the intake manifold. It has failed and is why your jeep is running rough and hesitating. Replace it and it will fix your driveabllity issues. Disconnect the battery for 2 min to clear the code.

SOURCE: 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Crank-No Start. Replaced FP.

Hey Tim take a look at this, will this help ?
SUBJECT:
No Engine Crank Or No Engine Start Due To Electronic Lockup Of The WCM / SKREEM
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the Wireless Control Module (WCM), and if
equipped, the replacement of the Electric Steering Column Lock (ELV). The WCM is also
referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM).
MODELS:
2007
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer will experience a no engine crank AND a no engine start condition. Also, the
remote keyless entry (RKE) system will not operate. This condition may be due to an
electrostatic discharge (ESD) from the ignition key into the Wireless Control Module
(WCM), causing the WCM to electronically lockup. This condition may occur more
frequently in dry and/or cold weather conditions where a sufficient electrostatic charge is
more easily produced. This condition is corrected by the replacement of the WCM
DIAGNOSIS:
1. With the condition present (i.e. the vehicle in the no crank / no start condition), connect
the StarSCAN® scan tool to the vehicle.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position, and power up the StarSCAN®.
3. If the WCM is electronically locked up, the StarSCAN® will display the WCM as being
“off bus”.
4. If the no crank / no start condition is present, and the WCM is “off bus”, then reset the
WCM by temporarily removing the IOD fuse (with the key out of the ignition switch),
wait for 10 seconds and then reinstall the IOD fuse.
5. With the IOD fuse reset having been performed, verify that the vehicle will now crank,
start, and run.
6. If the condition is temporarily corrected by performing the above steps, and if the part
number of the WCM is earlier than the part number of the WCM listed in the part
reference table in the Service Bulletin Parts Required Section below, then perform the
Repair Procedure.

the EGR is PWM modulated,
first is to clean in. the exhaust path must be good
the EGR must not stick closed or open.
p0405 means the pin on sensor part is stuck low.
tell me in most cases, the valve is stuck closed.
clean it is best first action.

the monitor pin is at X, this tells the PCM where the EGR moved
per PCM command. (called feedback) yours is hard stuck.

Vapor recovery

I came across this service bulletin that you will find helpful- I do believe the VCF is above the fuel tank; but if you call any diy auto parts store like NAPA, AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc.or even the parts department at Dodge, for pricing, they'll tell you exactly where it is located and they may even print out the schematic for you. Best wishes on your project. BTW, did you're "check engine" light go on? Did you get an OBD-II fault reading? Or fail an emissions test? Just curious for my own knowledge.

DISCUSSION:
Customer may report that the vehicle is hard to fill with fuel or that the fuel pump nozzle
shuts off repeatedly while trying to fill vehicle.
This customer complaint can occur due to a number of different causes. The fuel tank is
the least likely cause of this condition. The following Diagnostic procedure can be used to
diagnose the issues.

DIAGNOSIS:
1. Is the vehicle a LX/LE/LC/L2?
a. Yes >> proceed to Step #2
b. No >> proceed to Step #4
2. Idle the vehicle 60 to 90 seconds upon stopping.
3. Does tank refill properly?
a. No >> proceed to Step #4
b. Yes >> Inform the customer to idle the vehicle for 60 to 90 seconds upon stopping if
vehicle was driven aggressively. This is due to the fact that on the LX/LE/LC/L2 the
fuel tank is a unique saddle tank design and needs 30 to 60 seconds while the
engine is running to level the fuel in both half's of the fuel tank. Allowing the vehicle
to idle for this amount of time will let the fuel pump transfer fuel to the left side tank,
opening the control valve and allowing normal fuel filling.
4. Disconnect the vapor recirculation tube at the fuel tank.
5. Attempt to refill fuel tank.
6. Does tank refill properly?
a. Yes >> Proceed to Step #7
b. No>> Proceed to Step #11.
7. Reconnect the vapor recirculation tube at the fuel tank.
8. Disconnect the other end of the vapor recirculation tube at the fuel filler tube.
9. Attempt to refill fuel tank.
10. Does tank refill properly?
a. Yes >> Replace fuel filler tube.
b. No >> Replace the vapor recirculation tube.
11. Disconnect the control valve to EVAP canister tube at the fuel tank.

12. Reconnect the vapor recirculation tube at the fuel tank.
13. Does tank refill properly?
a. No >> Replace Fuel Tank.
b. Yes >> Proceed to Step #14.
14. Reconnect the control valve to EVAP canister tube at the fuel tank.
15. Disconnect the control valve to EVAP canister tube at the EVAP canister.
16. Attempt to refill fuel tank.
17. Does tank refill properly?
a. Yes >> Blockage is in the EVAP Canister, or ESIM, or Clean air hose (ESIM vent
hose), or filter. Diagnose appropriately.

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. The Engine light came on. I had Auto Zone check the code for me. I don't remember the number, but they said that it was the Purge Valve. I had to buy the Purge Valve from...

Could be the P0445 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve uses a ON/OFF duty to control the flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is moved by ON/OFF pulses from the ECM. The longer the ON pulse, the greater the amount of fuel vapor that will flow through the valve.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible causes
- Damage harness or connectors to the Purge Control Valve
- The valve circuit is open or shorted
- EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve may be faulty

When is the code detected?
- An excessively high voltage signal is sent to ECM through the valve

Try to remember this code number for additional details. Hope this helps, keep us updated.

We just fixed the EGR valve and now 3 weeks later the P2097 error code was detected.

Not sure of your vehicle but it is not likely that it's part of the EGR valve although you need to make sure the gasket for the EGR valve isn't leaking because leaking exhaust will set this code. Does your vehicle have a EGR solenoid/transducer. The reason I ask is because in Chrysler products the EGR valve and transducers are calibrated together and this may be causing the EGR to open to much and exhaust will leak. I serious don't that it has anything to do with the EGR valve you just replaced however. I think you just have another problem. That's my opinion anyway. The possible causes of the code is: • Leakage exhaust gas • Rear HO2S malfunction • IAT sensor malfunction • ECT sensor malfunction • Front HO2S malfunction • Excessive fuel line pressure • Fuel pump unit malfunction • Purge solenoid valve malfunction • Insufficient engine compression • PCM malfunction Find out about the transducer and then go from there like O2 sensors as well as the other possible causes. I wish I could be more help and I hope this helped a little anyhow. Good luck.
