Car spits and sputters but I get fuel past the fuel filter.
First check or just replace the fuel filter. Usually located under the car in front of the rear axle, drivers side.
Next, the fuel pump may be worn out. Usually they get loud or stop working (running).
Next, check the fuel pressure regulator. Usually located on the front fuel rail, drivers side.
Is the vacuum line attached? Not leaking or rotted?
Also, do you smell a strong fuel odor when it won't start? May be one or more stuck-open injectors, or the coil pack(s) is/are bad.
Checking these in the order listed will more than likely fix your problem. Try a new fuel filter first. From there have someone check the fuel pressure regulator and then the pump. If you are in need of a new pump, take my word for it and spend the money to get one from a Dealer, and not from your favorite parts store. Most parts store parts are made in China and they are JUNK. At least get a OE pump.

Chances are you have a contaminated MAF sensor. If you are you have a fine touch and are mechanically inclined you may be able to save yourself a bit of cash by cleaning this yourself. You'll probably have to buy a couple tools to do it. The MAF is attached to it's housing with tamper proof torx screws and often times the factory fills their heads with epoxy. The housing is a pain to take apart as well. The problem comes from dirt building up on the diodes that sense the cooling effect of the air as it enters the engine. You have to get a q-tip and gently clean these diodes with a slovent. You can probably search the net to get the procedure. The alternative of course is just to buy a new assembly but they're not cheap. This is something I would do every couple of years as maintenance but you may want to be sure that it relates to your engine light first.

It would be better if you had someone check the codes or your never going to find out for sure and will just be chasing what ifs.

COULD BE THE FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR OR YOU HAVE THE WRONG FUEL PUMP FOR THE VECHICLE.PCM COULD BE OUT OF CALIBRATION.TURN OFF RADIO FIRST THEN DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FOR A MINUTE THEN HOOK BACK UP NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.THEN CRANK CAR UP LET IT GET OPERATING TEMP BEFORE THROTTLING IT.GIVE PCM TIME TO RECOGNIZE THE NEW FUEL PUMP.

More than likely, yes. If the regulator is controlled by a vacuum feed, try removing the hose from it and run the engine. If you feel that it will run off-idle after you've done this, replace the regulator and be on your way.
