Engene dies when is started

It can be issue with fuel pressure,its low or the problem relates to faulty spark plugs.

I just went through this. I replaced the ignition coil. Of course after trying a million other things that didn't work. ha ha It runs better than ever now.

1994 Toyota pickup 22re 4cyl has intermitent low, rough idle. Sometimes idles normally. I have also noticed that when AC is on and compressor is engaged the engine idle is normal but when the compressor...

You might have a bad coil. Under a load the coil might preform well, but under no load, its weak causing a misfire...thus giving you a rough idle. I have had this problem on a few vehicle. Check plugs, wires, and distributor. Mike.

Truck stalls

if it is burning rich, there for it will be over fueling around low rpm i do belive, which will cause the engine to flood, im guessing after you have been low rpm then go for high rpms, it like hesitaes and takes abit of a cough then goes, if that is the case then it is overfueling.

there is a way to advance/****** the engine mixture, but id say for safe if you don't know what your doing to take it do a garage, and ask for it to be timed up with the timing strobe light :) which will stop the, over fuelling around low rpms.

I have a similar problem with one of my Toyota Corollas. It's a 95 model with the 1.8L engine (7A-FE, automatic). But unlike yours, it has plenty of power while running. Here's what it does. Occasionally the engine misses. Sometimes it will die. This is most likely to happen when you start the car and put it in reverse and start rolling without giving the engine time to adjust. I've been told by some customers that it will die sometimes when coming to a stop. But this has never happened when I drive it. I don't think it's a fuel issue because the car runs just fine when it's running.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Replaced spark plugs and wires.
Used gasoline additive fuel injector cleaner.
Checked air filter.
Checked vacuum hoses for leaks.
Replaced PCV valve and hoses.
Cleaned the air intake and throttle body with carburetor cleaner.

So far there is no change in the problem.

What I plan to do next:

Check the throttle position sensor.
Check the MAF sensor.
Adjust the idle via the set screw.

After that I have no idea what to do next if the problem persists. The check engine light is not on so I don't think there are any error codes. Will let you know.

I should have reported this earlier, it turned out that the problem was a bad ignition coil. Here's how I found out: I swapped my car's distributor with a "known good" distributors from another running Corolla; my ca ran just fine with the "good distributor." So I bought a new ignition coil and swapped it into my original "bad" distributor and the car ran fine from then on. Swapping the ignition coil out of the distributor is very simple.

Regarding the EGR: This is probably not the cause of your problem. If the EGR valve is stuck open, the car will sputter and die at idle, but not at speed. If the EGR valve is stuck shut, there is no real effect on the running of the engine at any speed. So most probably (if not definitely) the cause of the problem being discussed here is not the EGR.

I am having the same issue, changed the gasket, rotor, and distributor cap. Spark plugs look fine.

Well, my problem is similar.
My 95 wagon has a standard transmission, it idles fine, it runs fine when I accelerate, it's when I'm putting along in 3rd or 4th gear, it sputters and bucks. It's not my ability with a clutch, I assure you.
It has never stalled completely but it's come close. Here's what I've tried... new plugs and wires. cleaned throttle body. replaced fuel filter. replaced coil. replaced map sensor. checked for vacuum leaks. checked pcv. I'm stumped and perturbed. I love my Corolla and I want it to work like it used to. If anybody has any more ideas, I'd love to hear them. Fuel pump has beensuggested, and I think it's unlikely. EGR has been suggested, haven't replaced it yet. Coolant tempsensor has been suggested, haven't tried it yet.
