What's up guys . need some help here I've been looking on other forums trying to figure out what my loud obnoxious engine knocking is . so I get home on Sunday from work go to bed. wake up Monday morning start my truck up and sounds like a freaking hammer hitting . my oil is good no metal in it. the lubricity is good I don't even know if that's a word but yeah. also I was reading about flex plates bending . I'm pretty sure it's not that. sound like passenger side lower area. checked for broken exhaust studs none are missing ., I'm at a stand still . just weird how this happened over night. . I don't know if it's a bad intake manifold gasket . but yet again I am not loosing coolant. also I was wondering if it could be a injector ?? making piston slap. please help I would really appreciate it
SOURCE: LOUD TICKING NOISE IN ENGINE AFTER INTAKE REPAIR
How long have you ran the engine ? I know that they will run rough and sometimes make strange noises for a few secounds or a little bit untill everything get oiled up again. I would make sure all the push rods are back in the right place and that all the lifters are tight.
SOURCE: OIL COMING OUT EXHAUST MANIFOLD
If oil is coming out of your exhaust manifold you probably have bad piston rings. you can buy a compression tester at auto parts to verify the problem.

On 5.7L engines, install the bolts and torque in sequence as follows:
SOURCE: loud knocking or tapping sound when engine is cold
Take our oil pan off from under your car and there should be 4 to 5 covers over a rod bearing. wiggle each one of them and find out which one is loose. take that cover off of the one that is wiggling and get the rod bearing out. order a new one from auto zone and replace it. The knocking in your motor can end up where you will need a whole new motor. so get it done before its to late.

my truck is not turbo charged. I ran the motor for max 5 min did not want to ruin anything more . pretty sure it will not change due to engine warm up . I know it's not piston slap it's too quiet to be piston slap. sounds like one piston is out of time. I am going totals off the valve cover and inspectthe rockers and push rod. might have to take the cylinder head off to check lifter .. I know these trucks are notorious for bad lifters
I really hope it's just a knock sensor . I've read about how bad your motor can sound and how loud it can be with a bad knock sensor . I hope so .
