A common problem on many of the new cars is that when a person gets gas, they don't tighten up the gas cap. This will turn on the check engine light. Did you get gas recently? Another option is to see what code is stored in the ECU that turned the light on. This is done with a scanner tool. If you do not have a scanner, then have a dealer look at it.

No its not true,the cooling fan comes on when the coolant temp reaches a certain point it closes the switch in the temp sensor wich in turn closes the relay and powers the cooling fan,the reason it comes on with the A/C is that it's wired to bypass the temp sensor and associated relay because the A/C compressor forces the motor to work harder and the coolant temp to rise significantly faster,the relay needs to be replaced or you will overheat the motor and possibly cause serious damage.

Have shop run an OHM test on your transmission sensors -- then have them replaced and rerun the OHM test. -- it's more than likely an input speed sensor that is not working properly and telling the jeep to go into "limp mode" hence your speed isn't changing but it can't read the actual speed.

The lights in the climate control panel are not bulbs, they are LED and the entire panel will need to be replaced. I would check for a bad connection before replacing the panel assembly.

I have a 2007 jeep commander 3.7 reading a code p0032 after i replaced the o2 sensor with a ngk it is still reading the code what do i do next?

Check your wires. You may have a bad connection or broke wire. other than that you may have an issue with it running too rich or lean. The o2 sensor will turn on the check engine light if its out of specs.

DTC P0480 - COOLING FAN CIRCUIT

Circuit Description

The cooling fan is controlled by PCM through the fan relay based on inputs from ECT sensor, IAT sensor, A/C selector switch, A/C refrigerant pressure switch and vehicle speed sensor. PCM controls cooling fan by grounding cooling fan control circuit which turns on cooling fan relay.

The fan relay will be commanded on when ECT reaches 223°F (106°C) or greater, A/C is requested or vehicle speed is less than 38 MPH. Cooling fan relay will also be commanded on regardless of vehicle speed when a DTC is set requesting cooling fan to be on, ECT is 304°F (151°C) or greater, or A/C refrigerant pressure is high. Cooling fan may also be commanded on when engine is not running, on certain conditions.

Conditions for setting DTC:

Battery voltage greater than 9.5 volts.

Cooling fan fault line detects a malfunction for 6 seconds.

1. Check cooling system. Ensure coolant level and belt tension are correct. Adjust/repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 23). If no adjustment or repairs were required, go to next step.

2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, check if cooling fan is operating with ECT at less than 209°F (98°C). If cooling fan is off, go to next step. If cooling fan is on, go to step 4).

3. Command cooling fan relay on. If cooling fan operates, go to step 23). If cooling fan does not operate, go to step 5).

4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. If cooling fan turns off, go to step 23). If cooling fan does not turn off, go to step 6).

5. Disconnect cooling fan relay harness connector. Using a test light connected to ground, probe battery feed circuits in relay harness connector. If test light illuminates on both terminals, go to step 7). If test light does not illuminate on both terminals, go to step icon_cool.gif.

6. Disconnect cooling fan relay harness connector. With test light connected to ground, probe battery feed circuit in relay harness connector. If test light illuminates, go to step 9). If test light does not illuminate, go to step 10).

7. Connect a jumper wire between cooling fan relay battery feed and cooling fan battery feed circuit. If cooling fan operates, go to step 11). If cooling fan does not operate, go to step 12).

8. Repair open in battery feed circuit. After repairs, go to step 23).

9. Repair short to voltage in cooling fan battery feed circuit. After repairs, go to step 23).

10. Connect test light battery voltage and probe cooling fan control circuit. If test light illuminates, go to step 13). If test light does not illuminate, go to step 21).

11. Connect test light to battery voltage and probe cooling fan control circuit. Using scan tool, command cooling fan on. If test light illuminates, go to step 14). If test light does not illuminate, go to step 15).

12. With jumper wire still connected, disconnect cooling fan harness connector. Using test light connected to ground, probe cooling fan battery feed circuit. If test light illuminates, go to step 16). If test light does not illuminate, go to step 17).

13. Repair short to ground in cooling fan control circuit. After repairs, go to step 23).

14. Check terminals to cooling fan relay. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 23). If terminals are okay, go to step 21).

15. Check cooling fan control circuit for open or poor connection. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 23). If circuit or connection is okay, go to step 22).

16. Connect test light to battery voltage and probe cooling fan ground circuit. If test light illuminates, go to step 1icon_cool.gif. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 19).

17. Repair open or poor connection in cooling fan ignition feed circuit. After repairs, go to step 23).

18. Check for poor connections at cooling fan harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 23). If connections are okay, go to step 20).

19. Repair open or poor connection in cooling fan ground circuit. After repairs, go to step 23).

20. Replace cooling fan motor. After replacing cooling and motor, go step 23).

21. Replace cooling fan relay. After replacing relay, go to step 23).

22. Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After replacing PCM, go to next step.

23. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Command cooling fan on. If cooling fan operates, system is okay. If cooling fan does not operate, repeat step 1).

I have 2003 grand cherokee with 140000 miles that overheats at idle. as soon as i start moving again, the temp goes back to normal.

You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful

2006 4.7 Jeep Commander Overheating

Can you see the cooling fans come on? When the engine gets to 212 degrees the fans should come on. To test the fans, with the engine running turn the A/C on high, the fans should come on .
The system also has a 212 switch that screws into the intake manifold. This is what turns on the fans with no A/C.

1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0 litre 6cyl automatic cooling fan does not come on to cool engine, causing overheating of the engine.

OK here we go you will need a test light for the following tests, i will try to be as descriptive as possible so lets get started

fist start the engine and turn on the a/c that should command the fan on.
right front engine compartment next to the battery is the power distribution center pop off the top, ground your test light to the negative battery terminal and find fuse number 10 it is a 40 amp fuse check both sides of this fuse with your test light, if you have power on both sides of the fuse than we shall go further.

unplug the connector from the cooling fan, there should be two wires in the plug one is dark green and the other is black with a pink tracer, with your test lite grounded to the negative battery terminal check the dark green wire for power, if there is power there than move your test light ground clamp to the battery positive terminal and test the black wire for ground,
if testing the black wire made the test light shine than the ground circuit is good, if it did not than check you ground connection behind the right headlight.
when testing the dark green wire, if the dark green wire made the test light shine and the ground circuit is good than you simply have a bad coolant fan motor.

I suspect you were not getting power to the fan motor so you will need to take a look at the radiator fan relay, this is a special solid state relay mounted to the inside of radiator core support on the right side down behind the bumper.

here you will find a single plug with 4 wires in it

black = ground
dark blue / pink = relay controll from pcm
dark green = output to radiator cooling fan
gray = battery power from fuse # 10 in pdc

unplug the relay ground your test light to the battery negative terminal, with the engine running and a/c turned on check the gray wire the test light, it should turn on if not recheck fuses.

move your test light to the battery posistive terminal and test the dark blue / pink wire, if the test light turns on than you have a bad radiator fan relay, you can pick one up at your local parts store for about $85.00 just make sure you get a high quality one the cheap ones have a hard time with the amprege consumption of that fan.
