My 545i had the increased emissions light to come on and then go off, and back on again. I was told it could be the thermostat. Can someone tell me how? Also, why are so many BMW's having this issue? has their been some kind of recall? Any info would be appreciated. [email protected]

I've had the same problem with my 2005 525i and the BMW dealership replaced the vanos.  It was a costly repair!  Now, just a couple months later, the "increased emissions" light has reappeared.  I am so tremendously frustrated.

And just a few days ago, the "pass restraint" warning message appeared.  If this car doesn't stop, I am going to be blinded by all the annoying lights that are appearing on the dash!  Geez!  But this issue may be related to a faulty sensor matte in the seat for which BMW has issued a recall.

I am just not sure I can keep this car much longer.  It is by far, the most coolest car that I have ever owned.  But I have no confidence in this car.

Did you have the 'Increased Emissions' after you replace the AirBag mat sensor?
I just had mine replaced under a recall warantee and the 'Increased Emissions E60' light came a few days afterwards.
Is this related? (I can't see how since one is emmissions related and the recall was for AirbagSensor.
    Thanks!

I have a 2004 BMW 530I and just had my airbag mat repaired on Apr 23, 09. Today, Apr 29, 09 while driving my check engine light came on too saying that I exceeded the emissions too.

so what is the answer?! We just purchased a used 2005 525 and similar thing. 1st with Transmission warning and emissions subtitile. Car went into safe mode and wouldnt shift above 4th. When we stopped. waited and it turned back on without any jmore warning. Went fine on the fwy. Next day, it would just shut off. no error messages. Try to start itt and nothing. Then after 5 minutes of trying, it starts. only to shut off while driving again., Took 10 minutes for it to finally start. Today it happened again. Is it the computer system a bad relay of what?

Apparently there's an emissions-related malfunction. I suggest doing as it says and have your vehicle checked by your BMW center as soon as possible.

2005 bmw 545i check engine soon light is on increased emission light also shows. What could be my problem?

You need to have an OBII scan (fault scan) done by a dealer or a specialty shop. It'll pull up faults and point you at what needs to be addressed. Sometimes it's a loose connector or moisture intrusion. Other times it's a simple part replacement or "timed maintenance" IE: O2 sensors etc.. It's your onboard computer pre warning you of future possible problems.

I am thinking about buying a BMW 545i but it has done 200000KM - 2004 and am just cautious for the KM reading. I have been told that they are easily reliable into the 500000 km mark - what can you tell me?

this car is totally unstressed,(unless ragged)the mechanicals should last well into 700k,BUT the service schedule is all important,CHECK THE HISTORY,if full then, BUY, with confidence.the biggest problem is the cost of parts when they do go wrong,(very few parts are made in china so you cant pay peanuts for the bits.) but WHAT A CAR........love em.with a passion.

P1650C NONE EMISSION CODE

That is in the main computor of the car. The only way to fix that is to change the computor. I changed one in a saturn that had the same problem, put in new computor, problem solved.

My 545i service warning light is on. It says...

if you tell a BMW garage you only want an age/mileage service, thats what you get BUT they will give you a list(on paper)of things that you may want to consider doing,BMW dealers have strict instructions from the factory and if they dont follow these they loose the franchise...THEY DONT PLAY GAMES like some domestic makes.....(dealers)

ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD IT CHECKED OUT

the "emissions" refers to the entire system which reduces pollutants into the amptmoshere. you need to know the code and ill be able to tell you what needs to be done. you may not be experiencing any issues other than a check engine light. let me know what they put on the invoice from the shop.
