I have a 99 jetta it will start and run,at 2000 rpms it falls on its face.

Clean your throttle valve both sides with carb cleaner. If that does not fix it decarbonize the motor. Easy way to decarbonize motor. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK! Go to expressway and when your getting on start around 15mph and hammer down and don't let up until you are at the speed limit. Repeat two to three times REMEMBER SAFTEY FIRST! MAKE SURE traffic will allow you to do this! NOT DURING ANY RUSH HOUR TIMES!

Hi I have a 99 grand marquis .and it has a rough idle and it's hessitant when I accelerate .can someone please help.

Some of these engines had a channel under the Airhorn to provide flow to the EGR. These engines had 8 small bolts to unfasten to remove the Airhorn. You clean the passages and make sure the EGR valve is decarbonned. The gasket is about $10.

How do you solve the engine clatter when accelarating?

It sounds like you have spark knock, is this correct? If so try another grade of fuel and have the engine scanned for fault codes and verify the ignition timing is correct. You may also have carbon built up on the piston crowns, have it decarboned.

Have a rough idle that seems to be from a carbon build up any way to solve this

One way to try to decarbon is with air cleaner removed run the engine until hot rev up engine to about 2,000 rpm and pour some water ( a couple of quarts ) down into the throttle body pour as fast as you can without stalling the engine. This will create steam in the combustion chamber loosing up some of the carbon deposits .You may have to repeat more than once.. Then after drive on highway a little to help blow out...

Starts fine, idles fine, stalls when put in gear to drive away

Try depressing slightly the gas pedal to see if the engine continues to run when you put it in gear. Might have to depredd gas pedal and brake simultaniusly. if the engine continues to run, then the problem is in the idle circuit. Try decarboning the throttle body and the idle speed control.
