What does code P 119 mean on my Cadillac 1994 Seville STS

P0119 Cadillac Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Intermittent
Possible causes - Low engine coolant level
- Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
- Faulty engine coolant thermostat
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical circuit poor connection What about the obd code? The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected an erratic signal from the engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor during the system monitor test Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) P0119 Cadillac Description The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is used to detect the engine coolant temperature. The sensor modifies a voltage signal from the Engine Control Module (ECM). The modified signal returns to the ECM as the engine coolant temperature input. The sensor uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases.

Why does my abs, trac, along with low coolant light come on? My low coolant is not low I checked the level under the hood

Coolabt level sensor failures are pretty common. You need to scan your engine computer and see if it is setting a code for your coolant level sensor. It is also very common for the ABS and TRACTION CONTROL to be disabled if the engine control computer determines that there is a fault in the engine control system....A bad coolant level sensor can cause ALL of this.
You will also have to properly reset your computer memory to get everything working again.

PLEASE NOTE that disconnecting the battery in an attempt to clear the computer fault code memory is useless and can cause codes to set in some of the other computer modules in your vehicle, and cause other types of problems (there are many uneducated people online telling people to disconnect battery cables to "reset" the computer). In extreme cases, disconnecting and reconnecting battery cables can actually cause severe damage to high-dollar computer components (like a home computer getting spiked by a lightning strike with no surge protector). Engine control fault codes should ONLY be reset by using a scan tool or a generic OBD code reader that has the capability of code-clearing.

My check engine light has come on at 85500 miles, but I had taken it and had the oil changed and all fluids checked the day before. Had someone put it on the code reader and it said coolent low, checked...

You can reset the cel with the scanner-or disconnect the negative battery cable and leave it off for about 5 minutes-if it comes back on, you do have a problem and the code you get needs to be investigated. A low coolant sensor should not set a check engine light, what was the actual code (the number)?

'low coolant light' flashes all the time and then 'service engine soon'

These problems may or may not be related. The Check coolant light means that the coolant level in your radiator is low. If you have checked it and it is not low, then the sensor is most likely defective. The low coolant sensor will not turn the Check Engine light on - even if the coolant really is low. There are many things that can cause the Check Engine light to come on. You will have to scan your Engine Computer to find out why it has been turning the light on.

I did have a problem on one of these cars one time where the Check Engine light was coming on and there were several codes for the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) and the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and the car ran really bad. The Check Coolant light was also on. After checking it out I found that the coolant level sensor was shorting out the 5 volt reference circuit (VREF) from the computer and causing the whole problem. Replacing the coolant level sensor fixed the car.

Abs, low coolant, trac off and service engine soon light comes on when running had a tune up and have the same problems please help wht else could be the reason.

multiple issues.

for abs and trac, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6003525-abs_traction_control_lights . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

for coolant light I assume the coolant level is good. If yes, remove the connector from the sensor on the reservoir. If the light goes out, replace the sensor. If light stays on, the wiring is shorted and you'll have to trace it to repair the short.

for the engine light, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5932051-check_engine_light_check. These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Abs and trac control lights are on

It is one of your wheel bearings. The problem is easily solved by taking the car to a dealer, or having a code reader, and determining which wheel bearing is bad. The wheel bearing is under $150 and should be installed by someone with some muscle, as the bolts are torqued from the factory extremely tight in a tight location. The wheel bearing have all of your sensors for abs built into them and if that sensor goes out your computer tells the abs and traction control to shut down, hence you get the lights on on the dash.
