1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse transmission slips in overdrive

1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse transmission completely slips when it shifts into overdrive. The engine will rev up ok but the car will not move. If you disengage the overdrive switch while driving the transmission will downshift into drive and functions fine. If you disengage the overdrive switch from a dead stop the transmission will shift and drive fine...as soon as you engage the overdrive switch the transmission will slip. Is the overdrive clutch pack burnt up or is there an electrical issue? Thanks!

Well the low cost way to go first would be to try and change the trans fluids. If the problems still remains the it may be an internal problem

1999 mitsubishi eclipse automatic transmission wont shift into 4th gear.

First off.. If you have a check engine light on, Find someone with an OBD2 READER or buy one yourself(very good tool to have) and that will give you the code(s) to your problem..

If not.. Check ALL your fuses..

If those are good and you DO NOT have a sealed tranny.. Check your fluid..

If all the above check out good.. It's gonna be 1 of 2 things..

1. Your overdrive is either turned off and/or damaged.. (Over drive on: uses all 4 gears/Over drive off: uses only 3 gears)

2. Your shift silonoid pack is damaged, which normally when this happens your car goes into a thing called "dummy mode" and keeps the tranny ONLY in 2nd gear..

Now assuming your car shifts into every other gear just fine.. And the fact that normally reverse is the first gear to go out.. I'm gonna say it's your overdrive or a relay that runs with your overdrive..

Let me know what happens or if you have anymore questions..

Why is my transmission not shifting into drive and overdrive

Either the transmission is shot completely or the filter is clogged and needs replacement and new fluid added

1992 mitsubishi eclipse wont go faster than 25 miles per hour

If this is an automatic, I'd suspect a transmission failure of some sort.

If a manual 5-spd, or the engine just won't rev, then there are several possibilities:
1. a fuel problem (fuel pump?)
2. the timing belt has slipped and the valve timing is way off.

Could be the front or rear brakes have jammed. Are any of the brakes getting VERY hot as you drive?

I have a 95 eclipse 2.0L nonturbo...the car will shift thru all the gears but wont move.....what could cause this?

if it is a standard transmission then it sounds as if the clutch and possibly pressure plate need replacing or adjusting. if it is an automatic then it sounds like it has gone out.

if a clunking noise is heard then it could be the cv joints or shafts .

sorry I couldn't clear it up more

hope this helps.

I have a eclipse 96 I tried to repair the

did you change fluid and filter this is just as important as an engine oil change. also a automatic transmission has things called bands that change the gears and hold overdrive in they also need adjusting every 30,000 miles. if not they will cause your transm, ission to slip. and burn up atf fluid.
