There are lots of comments on bmw battery. I have replaced my battery once with a dealer which costed me $500, only lasted 3 years. BMW gives only 24 months warranty on the battery and I don't want to go back to dealer for the battery. But once the battery is replaced, it should be registered. How?
You will need a good OBD2 scan tool.

$500 !!!! I'm in the wrong business.
AutoZone does the battery registration at purchase. They'll put the battery in for you for free.
Battery life varies. Short trips and cold temps affect life. I've gotten as low as 3yrs and I'm at one with 6yrs.

Hello There.
These come on as a precousionary measures, even if there is a slight misfire in the engine it generates a code which can be read and inform you why it is there, most of the time these are minor things and light can be reset. The only time you need to get seriously worried is when the letters 'eml' light up with the engine light, then you have a serious problem.
Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate me.
thanks

hello theringbar, I would recommend checking the a/c blower resistor. it is an electronic final stage and can kill the battery overnight. the final stage is located on the passenger side at the back of the a/c heater box.
SOURCE: What are the future problems of the BMW 650i?
The future problems? Now that really narrows down the possibilities. The biggest problem is running out of money once the warranty expires. The second biggest problem would be letting the wife or kids drive it.
Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. These are very high maint. cars.
Electric seat motor and cables should go kaput. As will the drivers side electric window. The rear tailights will get water in them and quit. The oxygen sensor will quit leaving a check engine light on. The Bosch electric fuel pump IN the tank will quit as well, leaving you stranded. Get it replaced every 40-60 thou miles.
SOURCE: where is the fuse for the cig lighter on the 650I
It is in the trunk in front of the battery. It is fuse number 87
SOURCE: FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER PROPERLY. AFTER IT
This issue sounds like a sending unit issue, which is part of the fuel pump/gauge assembly. There is really little to do in terms of repair, as replacement is the normal fix. You could check the connections, (not so easy) but the description sounds like a damaged winding on the gauge sender.
