My 2001 town and country's starter went out so we replaced it. Now when I go to shift from park to drive my speedometer jumps up to 20 mph and shifts like its going into second gear. We have replaced the input and output speedometer sensors. But it is still doing it. We have changed the transmission filter and fluid. All of that looked good.

I replaced the speed sensor & this took care of the problem.
SOURCE: country speedometer doesn't work and won't shift out of 1st gear
transmission speed sensor needs replacing about 40.oo$ at the dealer sits on the right side of transmission looking from the front of the radiator g s.
SOURCE: Transmission still shifts erractically
well if you have a lot of millage it could only be the gearpump in the transy thats finished, unfotuntly ...you cant really change -it without rebuilding the all transy
other than that you still can drive-it but try letting the gear go on by it self ,you could damage your van by doing that !! you mignt not have choice but if you do ...try not doing-it!

This is called the limp mode. It means that you have a transmission problem. It goes into limp mode to protect the transmission from total failure. You need to take it to a transmission shop to perform a diagnosic test to see if it needs repair or replace
SOURCE: What type of transmission fluid for town & country ?
Transmission fluid type ATF+4.
The filter is located on the bottom of the transmission, inside the oil pan.
