Front Brake Pad Replacement 2004 TL

How do you get the caliper and pads off the front of a 2004 TL? On past cars non acura there are two bolts and the caliper pulls off and you change the pads out. It does not looks as easy on the acura.

Just take off the bottom bolt of the caliper (14mm) then carefully pull caliper up do not put a lot of strain brake line then just with a flat screwdriver take out old

You might need to pull two pins out of the caliper and pull the pads out that way with out pulling the caliper off.

9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing.

Important note: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!!
Check brake fluid level and top up as neccessary!

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel Caliper mounting bolt Suspend the caliper from a wire Pads from the caliper support Pad retainers, if necessary

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Pad retainers, if removed Pads onto the pad retainers
  2. Compress the caliper piston using a C-clamp. Rotate the caliper downward and install the mounting bolt. Tighten to 16-24 ft. lbs. (22-32 Nm).
  3. Install the wheel.

Brake Pads Replacement - Front

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Service Precautions.

  1. Inspect the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  2. If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.
  3. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove the brake fluid with appropriate tool to the midway point before proceeding.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

  1. Compress the front brake caliper piston.
6.1. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the brake caliper housing and against the back of the outboard brake pad. 6.2. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston pushes into the brake caliper enough to slide the brake caliper off the rotor. 6.3. Remove the C-clamp from the brake caliper.
  1. Remove the lower mounting bolt from the slide pin.
  2. Rotate the brake caliper upward until it stops.
  3. Remove the outboard brake pad.
  4. Remove the inboard brake pad.
  5. Remove the brake pad retaining clips from the brake caliper mounting bracket.
  6. Remove the brake pad retaining clip from the brake caliper.
  7. Remove all foreign material from the brake caliper using denatured alcohol.
Installation Procedure

Important: When installing new brake pads, DO NOT reuse the old retaining clips for the brake pad. Use only NEW brake pad retaining clips.


  1. Install the brake pad retaining clips to the brake caliper mounting bracket.
  2. Install the brake pad retaining clip to the brake caliper.
  3. Ensure that the brake pad retaining clip in the brake caliper is properly seated.
  4. Install the inboard brake pad.
  5. Install the outboard brake pad.
  6. Rotate the brake caliper down into position.


Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

  1. Install the lower brake caliper mounting bolt.
    • Tighten the brake caliper mounting bolt to 51 Nm (38 ft. lbs.) .
  1. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
  3. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir. Caution: Refer to Firm Brake Pedal Caution in Service Precautions.
  4. Pump the brake pedal slowly and firmly to seat the brake pads.
  5. Burnish the new brake pads.

2001 brake pad replacement 2001 nissan quest

The hard part is pressing the caliper piston abck into the caliper so you can get the new, thicker pads over the rotor. A large C Clamp works best.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Pads —Front Disc Brake Removal
  1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04 .
  1. Remove the front disc brake caliper bolts. torx bit. T20?
  1. Support the front disc brake caliper from the front strut and spring assembly using mechanics wire.
  1. Remove the front disc brake pads.
    1. Remove the outboard front disc brake pad.
    1. Remove the inboard front disc brake pad.
Installation
  1. s1v~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Make sure the master cylinder reservoir does not overfill and spill brake fluid while retracting the front disc brake caliper piston.
    NOTE: It is necessary to fully retract the front disc brake caliper piston in the bore before installing the front disc brake pads.
    Install the front disc brake pads.
    1. Install the inboard front disc brake pad.
    1. Install the outboard front disc brake pad.
Caution. The outer pads are left and right. put left on driver side.
  1. Position the front disc brake caliper on the front-wheel knuckle and install the brake caliper pin bolts.
