One month ago mechanic reset light and said there was a slight evap leak in the tank, possible o-ring.Might go away with warmer weather. Said tank needs to be dropped to fix problem. Sai it's no big problem. Light stayed off one month but is back. How do I reset it?
Go to your local discount store and pick up an OBD II auto trouble code reader it'll cost around $50.00 depending on where you go. Make sure you read the package and that it says the reader can "clear" trouble codes. Follow the readers directions but be sure to check your current code to make sure you haven't developed a new problem. Also, some auto part stores will read your trouble code and reset it for free, you'll just need to check around in your local area.
This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
