Did the oil leak out & seize the motor,
or just go into fail safe to protect it?

Yes you have to check your pressure with a mechanical gauge first. If the pressure reading is good replace the oil pressure sending unit. They are known to go bad, and oil pumps going bad is rare.

SOURCE: airbag light stays on 2005 jeep liberty

It probably will cost a few bucks to get the code reset, but you don't need to go to the dealership, most shops with a good scanner equipped for air bag code reading will be able to diagnose and reset the light. The most probable reason for the code is the battery being dead for a while, there is a capacitor in the airbag circuit to make sure the airbag can go off in a collision even if the battery disconnects itself in the process. There is a slim chance it might be something else but either way the shop should be able to tell you what the problem is, and get it fixed... But, just for fun, before doing all this, i'd disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to an hour and reconnect it back, some systems do effectively reset themselves this way.

SOURCE: 2002 Jeep Liberty oil pressure light comes on in cold

Chrysler mounted the oil sensing unit on these motors directly above the oil filter. It is very easy to accidently hook the sensing unit with the oil filter wrench and crack or break it. For anyone whose oil light problem developed right after an oil change, this may be the problem. To change the unit, pry up the plastic retaining clip with a screw driver and unplug the wire harness. If the plastic part of the sensor is broken, (or if you break it to facilitate easy removal), you can remove the sensor with a 27mm socket. Once you have removed it, use a piece of CLEAN pipe cleaner to insure the hole isn't plugged with sludge which could also cause the oil light to come on. Screw in the new unit finger tight, then snug up with a WRENCH. You cannot use the socket to tighten it as it would damage the plastic part of the new sensor. Plug the wire harness back on, then start the engine to make sure it doesn't leak oil around the new unit.

SOURCE: 2002 jeep liberty speedometer stopped working

I had similar problem with my 2002 Jeep Liberty when it was new. Speedometer went crazy when I turned on the heater. As i turned up the level of air, the speedometer was directly affected. Turned out it was a loose grounding wire in the dash, and the air pressure from the heater caused it to move and lose grounding. I would guess you have a loose wire somewhere. But on the plus side, you aren't putting as many miles on your odometer...

2006 jeep liberty dying randomly. Oil change and new air filter. About to change spark plugs and wires. No gauge lights, no sputtering. Just turns off randomly, starts right back up when I put in neutral...

My 2006 Liberty has a similar issue. The oil light beeps and then the engine shuts off. I put the car in park and it restarts and the oil light goes off. I had the oil, filter, and lines checked and everything checked out. The mechanic thinks it may be the oil sensor going out and that for safety reasons the engine shuts down when the oil light comes on.

Jeep 2005 Liberty CRD diesel oil light and beep

I've never seen an oil pressure sensor that costs $750...Likely something else was done to justify that cost. If the light has not come on since the repair, I'd assume that problem has been corrected. If not, have the thing checked out again. If they charged you to repair it, then it should be fixed or, it's their problem!!! You should not be afraid to drive your vehicle. It's a machine, therefore it can and will break sometimes as do all cars. But being afraid to use it is not a solution.

2003 Jeep Liberty. Changed oil, running very rough and dies.

Buy some Marvel Mystery oil from Auto Zone and add it to you engine oil. Keep an eye on your engine oil level everyday with the Marvel in there and change the engine oil every 3000 miles. Hope the Marvel will clean out the lifters for you and the rest of the sludge in the engine. Do Not Use Engine Flush!!!! There know to eat the seals and kill engine sensors.
The EGR could also be stuck with carbon build up and may need to be cleaned or replaced. Try doing this, turn your radio off and disconnect the battery for a min, turn the ignition key to the run position and re connect the battery then start the liberty. That should reset the air idle control valve
Let it idle down and then go for a test drive after it warms up. Good luck and keep me posted, while your at Auto Zone have them scan your liberty for any DTC codes. Be glad to help.

2004 liberty

If your engine light came on, the engine module could have stored a code.
You need to have a scanner to check what code it is and that will point you toward the solution.
Possible causes could be (crank sensor, tps sensor or oxygen sensor).
Don't go replacing parts until you scan the vehicle for codes first.

Oil pressure light on and wont start

Well I had the same problem and wow was I surprised man. I have a code machine that plugs into my car and tells me what wrong with it then I fix it. It read that I had a misfire #1 so that means my spark plug is dirty or something like that. When I took off the spark plug it was smashed in that was a good sign.. I called a mechanic friend of mine and he said that my head and piston were damaged but would not really know unless he took it apart. What he said was true and cost me a great deal of money..!!!! Now searching the web I have found that there many jeep liberty with the same problem just different spark plug locations so I wonder if Jeep knows of this issue but will not acknowledge it.. If you need more information please email me at [email protected]

Check out this link regarding your issue..!!
