You'll need basic hand tools to change out the starter. The starter is usually held in place by 2 or 3 bolts. You'll need to make sure you note where the electrical connections go in order to replace them in the correct location following starter replacement. You'll have to get under the vehicle to replace the starter, even so, It shouldn't take more than an hour.

REMOVING A STARTER FROM A 1999 DODGE CARAVAN 3.3 FLEX FUEL ENG

The starter can be accessed from under the vehicle. Its just fitted on blts. Its not very difficult to replace starter. But the bolts are removed by special tool.Yu can get the tool from local auo part stores. Its easily available. Car no start problem is sometimes very difficult to confirm. You try all the possible things, but still you get no fault and problem is still the same.--------
In that case, you need to check few things individually.
Check the spark, the battery, the crank, the fuel and other most possible parts. Click this link below for more details:-- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/10/car-troubleshooting-tips.html

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo will not turn over when I try to start it. No clicking sound - just nothing. The electrical is all fine; opens with keyless entry mechanism, lights go on, windows roll...

I would use a jumper cable from the positive battery terminal to the starter to see if the starter and solenoid are good. If the starter works you probably are having issues with the ignition switch electric contact base. The part of the switch you put the key is the tumbler. Below that is the contact base where all the electric stuff happens . Yours is probably dirty or broken , but can usually be changed easily by taking off the steering column covers. You may need some special tools (anti -theft sockets or screwdriver inserts). The anti-theft screw and bolt tools are available from a lot of tool supply stores.

My 1999 toyota corolla having 120K plus mileage is probably going to need a new starter soon. Does anybody know how to replace the starter? What tools do I need? Thanks.

Between the engine and transmission is the location of the starter, on the outside of them. Basic tools to remove the bolts holding it and the electrical connectors need to be disconnected. Purchase a repair manual for details as this is a decent job.

Starter location and tools needed to replace

It is located under the car toward the front of the motor by the oil filter. Look for a metal cylinder like object with a big 4 gauge wire going to it. To change the starter you will need to disconnect the battery. Using a 15mm socket and entension remove the 2 starter bolts. You may have to remove the oil filter to get enough clearance to get the starter out. Some cars have a 13 or 15mm bolt on the back of the starter for extra support. If your's has this you will need to remove it.once you pull the start down remove the 8mm and 13mm bolts that connect the wires to the starter. Be careful not to let the starter hang from the wires as they will break. Install the new one in reverse.
