Ignition turns but no start

I turn the key, the ignition makes its clicking noise, the dash lights light up but 2007 Jeep Liberty Sport does not start up. Is it the battery or starter ? or something else. . . ? I found the positive cable connect (the thing on top the battery) buried with greenish fluid/paste, so I wiped all that off got rid of any hard corrosion and still no start. Nice click and my door locks work beautifully but no vroom. I want vroom :D
Any ideas ? Thank you

i am about to get my car back from the shop. Took 3 days and 2 mechanics to find it. It is a broken compenent in the steering column that cuts all power to the ignition. it is a 200.00 job and is not covered under warrantee. I am writing a letter to Jeep. The mechanic said he has never seen this issue before but apparently my 2005 jeep and yours have the same issue.

I have the same problem right now OUCH 200.00 and not covered in the warranty? My husband just took my battery to be tested, but now I guess it will come back that it is not the battery.

It is an issue in the steering column. I am getting my 2005 back today, finally. 2 mechanics and they said they have never seen this issue before!!
The steering wheel has to be pulled off and the part replaced. It is cutting all power to the ignition switch. It is not the starter or the Alternator... it is in the steering column. It should be about 200.00 to fix.

I must also report a silly solution...are you using the spare key? My dealer gave me a spare key and I tried to use it and found that it only opens the door

If the car clicks it might be the starter. But sometimes on Chrysler/Jeep if the car doesn't have enough voltage it will do that too. Try to get the battery tested first.

2003;Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4, anti theft issues..... Copy of Key , I don't have the key fob

Start with this

If You want to reset the alarm on the Jeep Liberty then You will need to follow these steps. To begin You will want to get into the Jeep and close the doors. Now hold down the control door lock button for 30 seconds. Once You have done this insert the key into the ignition and turn it on. Once it has been turned on You will want to turn it back off, and then back to one again. This will cause the security light to start blinking. While it is doing that turn the Jeep on and the system will be reset. If You wait too long the light will stop and it will not work.

or this

To reset the Jeep Liberty alarm, press the control door-lock button on the keyless entry fob. Open the side door of the cab. Leave all doors closed for around 16 seconds before the Vehicle Security Light on the instrument cluster starts blinking quickly.

2008 Jeep Liberty does not crank. Dash lights come on. Door locks do not respond to RKE. Tried second key, but will not start.

Automatic transmission ? Try moving the gear selector to neutral . park neutral safety switch ,maybe. If placing gear selector in neutral doesn't do anything , looking at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the starting system . Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? Free diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link .Do you know what a relay starter is , what a totally integrated power module is ? The starter control is controlled by a control module (computer )

The engine light came on recently in my 2007 Jeep Liberty. Everything seems normal, engine sounds good, it is not overheating, etc...could it be something easy to fix?

This may or may not work depending on the feature install in your vehicle.
To find out, put you Jeep in park, turn the ignition off, now with our starting the engine turn the ignition on,off,on,off,on,off,on this must be completed in 10 seconds. If you have a digital odometer the number should change shortly, the first number will be 12, each number will flash 3 times. The last number will be 55 which means "end of codes". If you don't have a digital odometer it will flash the codes on your check engine light.
If this works write the codes down and I can tell you what they mean. If it doesn't work then as far as I know your vehicle requires a code reader in order to read the codes in your Jeeps computer.
If you want you can take your Jeep to Autozone and they will read the codes for you.

Redo code for 2007 Pilot key

ok get in the car, close the door, make sure all doors are closed.... put the key in the ignition, turn the key to on but without starting the car (lights on dash light up only) press and release the key lock button, turn key to off, without removeing the key.. turn to on without starting the car (dash lights up only) press and release the key lock button again, turn the ignition off, without removeing the key then turn back on (lights on dash on only without starting the car, press and release the key lock button , turn off the ignition without removeing the key, ..turn on the ignition once more without starting the car , press and release the key lock button and u should hear the door lock cycle ....leave the key in the ignition ... now press the lock button or unlock button on the other remotes one at a time if u have them.....u should hear the lock cycle indicateing all remotes are programmed.... kind of tricky to explain but you will get it, the sequence of turnin the key in the ignition on and off is only done with that one first key,,, remember after the door lock cyles press the lock or unlock button on the other remote fobs if if any...and ur done..may take u a few trys.. let me know how it worked out.
