Can I replace the pcv valve & the fuel filter myself? I have a 2001 Ford Expedition.

My car shakes when accelerating.

the same thing happen to mine twice,and both times it was the coils ,You have 8 total ,one over each spark plug.I replaced them and no more problems.Check with the auto parts so they can tell you which one is bad,hope this helps...

start with the fuel pump as it is the easiest. turn the key on as tho you were going to start it so the dash trouble lights come on. leave it like that and go to the rear of the vehicle and listen for a buzzing or whirring noise. sometimes taking the gas cap off and listening helps

SOURCE: 2001 ford expedition electric fuel pump went out.

unfortunately it is not easy to replace. the pump is inside the fuel tank therefore the tank has to be removed to replace the pump.

well i'm sorry that you got the miss information here on fixya. because all internal combustion engines need a pcv valve to operate properly.

now the information you got first is correct and pcv valve can set false codes like o2's and lean bank conditions also can cause you vechile to run or idle rough.

no there are a few different styles pcv valves and some times don't look like your convetional pcv. some are heated in different ways either by coolant ( witch look like a conventioanl pcv but with a coolant tube around them) then electricaly heated and they don't look like them at all. but one thing that has to stay the same is the pcv valve has to ventilate the crank case and will be found somewhere on or near the valve cover because it is the easiest and most accessible point of the engines crank case area. so i would look for that and usally on that vechile it is on the passanger side valve cover in the middle.

with that said and seeing you did all those repairs i would go right for that as my next step. but there is other thing that cold cause this issue like leaky injectors and is almost more likely becuase of the o2 sensor code and backfire. do you have the code # so i can look it up and best assist you?

see vechiles are hard to fix over the computer as i am trying so if you have any more question/info about this issue please ask and i will be glad to help.

Have the throttle position sensor checked, might be faulty.

My 2001 expedition is idling rough and i hear a hiss comming from the engine near the rear but cant tell were its comming from

There is a large elbow shaped tube at the back of the intake plenum where the PCV valve hose connects. This tube gets a hole sucked in it due to oil fumes that come through the PCV valve and softens the rubber. To find the tube,simply follow the PCV valve tube from the valve cover on the passenger side of engine to the back of the intake.

How do i check if i have a bad coil pack on 2002 expedition

its a ford and your engine is out of balance and its not the first i seen either. short of replacing the engine or mounts i don't think it will change any. my buddy has a windstar and it shakes like crazy. the cost to replace the engine is more then the van is worth so till it stops turning doing any huge costs to replace the engine may not be worth repairing at this time.

2003 Ford Expedition check engine light on .Codes PO171 & PO174

This is a tough one could be mass air flow sensor ,oxyegen sensors,a fuel filter. a vacum leak, a pcv valve if i missed anything just google po 171 &174 look for fix ya this issue has been addressed many times first check the vacum lines includeing the line on the pcv valve for cracks or splits in the lines .I would do the fuel filter if it hasnt been changed in the last couple of years , if still a problem the MAF sensor if your happy with my advise please leave me with great feedback

2007 Ford Expedition 5.4L revving while driving normally after sitting idle...sometimes will give a **** after revving. Check enging light just came on. Autozone said code PO171 & PO174. Fuel filter...

Replace the spark plugs & only install the one piece
Champions 7989

Replace the front or upstream Oxygen Sensors at 100,000 miles

Clean the MAF Sensor--CRC MAF Cleaner (instructions on can)

The 171 & 174 are lean condition both banks,your doing the
sensors based on mileage & the fact their about to fail or slow
down anyway (Preventative Maintenance)

Also check for other codes & vacuum leaks anywhere,intake,exhaust
before converter,evap system,pcv hoses

Egr Valve may be a problem also

Need to be more proactive thru out the year & look for problems
not just drive until they happen

Fords have many COP Ignition Coil failures,one or several a year

Need a 20 mile road test with professional scan tool or software
along & 2 drivers to look at data,fuel trim,cylinder misfire counts,
codes not seen by code reader,etc,etc.

Where is the PCV valve located on a 2001 Ford Expedition 5.4L?

It is located on the right hand valve cover about halfway back.

I have 1997 ford expedition hose is leaking air at the other end of the pcv valve not the valve cover end . how do i fix this? i have a 5.4 engine > looks almost impossible to get to for repair.

I recently changed out all the plugs and coil packs on my 1997 expedition. After replacing them, the truck idles fine and revs fine but once it goes into gear it seems to way a million pounds. When I try to accelerate the rpms go up by the speed will only top out at about 20mph and the transmission will not seem to shift into the next gear easily, kinda jumps into gear. I found a hole in my pcv valve hose, I plan to replace it tommorrow. Could this cause my engine to bog down during acceleration and make it feel as if my transmission is going out?

Check the driveshafts/ Universal joints in the driveline.
