Emergency brake LOCKED UP on my 97 ranger

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? I loaned it to a friend who admittedly used the emergency brake and now the rear passenger wheel locks up at low speeds and greatly hinders driving.

i've learned the hard way that when i loan out something of mine, it comes back broken.

have the truck towed to MIDAS and make your friend pay to get it fixxed.

    then get a new friend

The right emergency brake cable is probaly chafed through somewhere.Try wiggling the cable around and see if it backs off.More than likely you need to get the cable replaced.

A/T. Why doesn't it go into gear?

Could be the emergency brakes are locked up. Rear brakes. Could be you have a bad transmission. Check the E brakes first.

98 saturn sl emergency brake broken the button came off and so did the spring so now we can use the emergency brake

Get a replacement parking brake lever on ebay or at a local junkyard. 92-99 SL1 & SL2 all the same part. Most likely your cables are corroded and frozen so be prepared to get some new cables at a parts store when you go to install your replacement brake lever.

My 1984 Ford rangers Emergency brake will not go down. It feels as if it is stuck in place and I need to fix it for it to pass inspection

Your emergency brake wires are rusted and need to be replaced. While you have the rear wheels off it won't hurt to clean and lube the mechanical brake parts.

Fix emergency brake for 98 ford ranger

under the truck you will find the adjuster, to take the slack out of the cable, If that does not work adjust your rear brakes.

1995 Ford Ranger Truck has been sitting for a couple months while my sons went away to military and the emergency brake won't disengage...

sounds like it froze up due to rust

if you go to an auto parts store you can by a parking brake cable tool that will allow you to separate the cables

however, you probably will still have the rear brakes locked and without just driving the vehicle, you'll have to disassemble the rear brakes to free everything
