1997 cadillac deville oil pressure light intermittently turns on while driving

Probably the sensor/sending unit on the engine that sends signal to the light.

This problem is caused by a defective oil pressure sending unit on the engine in most cases. The oil pressure sending unit is located on the oil filter adapter housing on the front of the engine. It is hidden a bit behind the front engine mount bracket.

OK, I have this intermittent problem on my 1997 Cadillac Deville. Sometimes, when the engine is hot and sometimes when cold, the starter will click, (solenoid), but the starter will not turn over the engine at all. I have to toggle the ignition switch to the start position and to the ignition position several times to make it work. But, this only occurs intermittently for me, and I have never really gotten stuck more then a few minutes.

The solution, of course, is to replace the starter to get rid of the intermittent problem.

Is the speedometer showing '0' or is it just not displaying any numbers at all?

Well, they may be right in saying that normal engine wear is causing this problem as the distance between the bearings and the oil passages gets bigger, the oil pressure drops.

If you want to spend the money on a new oil pump, you can, but there is no guarantee that will solve the problem.

You're right, the oil pump's passages might be wearing along with the rest of the engine causing this gradual low oil pressur problem.

Have you had the oil changed along with the filter to see if maybe there's a circulation problem in the engine?

I had low oil pressure on my 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine, that was intermittently flashing the low oil pressure light.

I read that it's recommended to change the oil to the proper viscosity and that seemed to clear up my problem on my GM Northstar engine.

It's worth a try.

do you have enough oil??????? if so, it is probably the oil pump.

ok, change the oil to proper viscosity. This happened to me on my 1997 Cadillac Deville. The manual says that when this happens, the oil could be too thick (filled with gunk I suppose). Oil won't flow right when it hasn't been changed for a while.

change the oil with 10W-30 and filter too. Happened to me, too, when I first got it and it was sitting around for a while.

first try and put some oil in it ....if the light went away..than check if you have an oil leak...if yes where?

it is saying you have bad stuts. you need to have it scanned to see which ones are bad.

Oil pressure switches a normally located by or near the oil filter on all cars. :-)
