Think I just answered this, but heres something else,,,AW4 has the dipstick tube welded to the pan. 727 goes into the case. but there are two pans on aw4 having a different # of bolts on pan...count them. To avoid problems before you take the pan down match the gasket to the pan to make sure it's corect.

Transmission takes to long to get in gear

http://www.aa1car.com/library/transmission_chrysler_45rfe.htm I would flush the trans for 100 dollars or change fluid and filter myself. If you could get them cheap at a junk yard replace the transmission control module.Go to auto zone or other auto parts store and get trans codes pulled for free. Spending 100 dollars on a flush every year or two is a lot cheaper than a 4,000 dollar or more rebuilt trans bill

Describe how to change transmission fluid and filter in 1996 jeep grand cherokee straight 6

Assume since you say filter it is automatic.

Before starting the job obtain the fluid and filter for your vehicle. The parts store can provide you the right kind and amount of fluid based on Make Year Model. Also obtain new gasket.

Transmission must be cool.
Raise vehicle on jack stands.
Locate the fluid pan. Remove the side and front bolts.
Place a drain pan under the transmission capable of holding 8 quarts (two gallons).
Loosen the rear pan mounting bolts. Fluid should start to drain around the pan at the front. If not the pan is stuck. Pry it gently at the front with a flexible putty knife.
Once fluid is draining you can eventually take the rear bolts all the way out and pour off the balance of fluid.

Clean the gasket mounting surface on the transmission.

Clean the fluid pan completely.

Remove the old filter. It will be held with screws (bolts).

Install new filter.

Assure surfaces are still clean. Put new gasket in place, and install pan, tightening the bolts (screws) gradually until correct torque for your transmission is reached.

Take car off jack stands.

Add the correct amount of fluid for your vehicle through the filler tube. (Parts store can look this up when you are there).

Start with engine in park. Maintain idle, don't race engine.
Shift to each range setting, and then back to neutral.

Watch for leaks - if occur will need to repeat the procedure but the filter can be left in place.

Change transmission fluide in 1999 Jeep Cherokee

To change the transmission fluid you drop the transmission pan should be about 16 bolts. Once that is off you will see the filter. Buy the kit from a local auto parts store and look to see what the filter looks like. Check your transmission fluid once you drain to see metallic look in it if so i would suggest a transmission flush.

My check engine light came on on my 2002 jeep grand cherokee, we took it to auto zone to have it check with their computer and came out with the following explanationbb6 overnor pressure sensor offset...

Don't flush the transmission. Remove the transmission oil pan and replace the governor pressure solenoid and switch. Reinstall the pan and add fluid. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect to clear any codes and road test.

Transmission not working when hot

well sounds pretty bad, did it start slipping before all of this and gradually get worst? anyways when this happens the cheapest diagnostic fix is pull all of the bolts on the bottom of the tranny to dran all the fluid, not sure if this tranny has a filter but pretty positive it does, pop a new filter in there you will see it when you you drop the pan, let all fluid drain and refill with the specific type of tranny fluid it calls from you can find the quanity and type from the auto store when you get the parts, substitute one of the quarts with lucas stop slip and hopefully it will bring the tranny out of it. otherwise your bands are shot and need a rebuild/tranny replacement. good luck and take care
