I checked all the fuses in the fuse box under the dash. All was good. Just shut totally off while driving. All lights work and battery is good. Turn the key and nothing. Not even a click...

So what about testing the circuit between the key switch and the starter ? And do you have power going to the key switch ?

  • Anonymous Feb 25, 2013

I haven't checked that yet. How do I test that? Would it have something to do with the neutral safety switch? It has a 5 speed manuel and I tried to roll start it with no success....

You should have a main fuse that powers the key switch. Usually a large red wire. If the key switch has power, the start circuit would go thru a clutch switch to prevent you from cranking the engine in gear. But it would not keep the engine from starting if you push start it.

Do you know where this main fuse is located on this truck? I just bought this truck a couple weeks ago and I'm not familiar with it yet...

The wiring diagrams I have do not show the power circuit to the key switch. There should be 2 or 3 fuseable links coming from the battery and going to the starter and key switch you would need to check with a meter. There is also a starter relay in the engine compartment that could have failed. My suggestion would be to pull the key switch and check the circuits there then work your way back to the battery and starter.

Ok thanks, I'll check into that.

  • Anonymous Mar 07, 2013

Ok, I put a new ignition switch and harness in the truck and the dash lights came on for about 5 seconds but when I turned the key to start...nothing! The dash idiot lights will not come back on. I checked all the fuses under dash, the fusible links and that and the battery is all good.

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

SOURCE: no power to starter 2004 chevy tahoe

Hi
It could be your neutral safety switch. It could be the starter relay which is located in the fuse panel box. It could be the smaller wire going to the starter could be loose or corroded.

It could be a corroded ground cable. follow the neg cable from the battery and see where it bolts to on the body remove the cable and clean and sand the area reattach the cable and spray some battery terminal protector on it. I've seen this a lot on older sorentos

Kid jumpstarted his grandmas car then shut off the 924 now it won't start. what could have happened to cause this?

Check the ignition fuse. Sounds like it caused an amperage overload when the other car started. You might check all the other fuses just in case. Hope this helps

1992 Toyota 4Runner has a full charge in the battery but has no power to lights, starter, stereo, etc. what could the problem be? its a 2.4L 4cyl 5spd

First, make sure the battery is hooked up correctly, and that the negative cable is secured to the engine block. Check all your fuses. If the fuses are ok, and the battery cable are hooked up right, pos. or + cable to the starter, and neg. or - to ground, then I would have the battery checked. If possible, try another battery. Don't use jumper cables. If the battery is bad, jumper cables would not work.

Try turning on your hazard/warning flashers. The DOT 3 fuses are usually right next to each other. Follow the clicking sound.
