Car repair 1990 Toyota Camry Model-QCV30-AEPEX, Engine 1974cc 2CT. Have just replaced the water pump and timing belt. I have a manual, but it does not show me enough info. Car will not start now, and it appears that the timing is off. How do I set timing?

SOURCE: 1990 toyota camry

Well if it is a 4 cylinder the timing marks would be small hole in camshaft lined up with little dot on head at 12 o'clock position and the crank with the pulley on should line up with 0 on the timing indicator. If it is a 6 cyl then the marks would be- camshafts both with dots up and lined up with indicaters on heads and crank timing mark on 0 with the harmonic balancer installed. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: DRIVE BELT ON 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY

If you are referring to the vehicle having a "Timing Belt", no, it does not have one.
The 2002 Camry 4 cylinder has a Timing CHAIN, and does not need to be replaced.

Locate the idler pulley. Loosen the nut in the center of the idler pulley. Then loosen the bolt that protrudes from the back of the pulley. This will let the belt go slack.

Loosen the tensioner pulley to remove the belt. It is the one that has a long bolt running through it. Once you remove the old belt, install the new one using the appropriate diagram from the above two links. Readjust the tension using the bolt you loosened to remove the old belt.

i hope this helps

How do i remove timing belt cover on 2000 toyota camry 4 cylinder 2.2 litre? i notice the securing bolts around the perimeter. do i access some of these from the wheel bay?

See here for info, p26 and 242.

This is for an earlier year model, but is for the 2.2L engine.

You will have to remove the crank pulley, timing belt covers and timing belt, for best access. Unless it is fairly new, I would replace the belt wile you are at it.

Hi, my 1990 Toyota Camry with 3S-FE engine noises on timing belt side recently. I got my timing belt and water pump changed in 2006 December. So far I drove the car around 50,000km. I changed my power...

I had the same problem in my 3sFE, I thought the same way you did, but it turn out to be the fan, check if there is any play in the fan, change it and your scrutching noise will be no longer there
