05 Colorado - New Spark Plugs, Rough Idle

I just bought new plugs for my Colorado. I put them in and it started idling rough *Note - There wasn't a problem/rough idle with the old ones .. but its time to replace them*. So, I put the old plugs back in, and it was still idling rough and then the check engine light came on. Anyone have any advice on what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!

Wrong plugs get the old style, take back the new ones. There is a push to get everyone to use those new style with the fancy metal and the new tip design, it's bs.

Also, clean throttle body well, if you clean it well you should find a coffee colored residue (gasoline varnish) lining the inside of throttle body, use MEK or appropriate cleaner to remove varnish, polish with clean cotton cloth, make certain to not damaged the sensor and fuel fitting.

Multiple sensors can cause the symptoms. Also use mass air flow cleaner on the Maf sensor which sits inset the intake tube just after air cleaner, this will help!

Sounds like you got two wires mixed up. Check your firing order. If not that, then you dropped a spark plug and flattened the gap. If it's a V6 the firing order is 165432. If it's an 8, it's 18726543.

depending on how you pulled the plug leads off the plugs will result on wether or not you have damaged the leads. It is very easy to separate the wire end from the carbon track inside the lead and so they will misfire.. Suggest you get new plug leads and be careful on how you handle the leads when pulling them off the plugs.

ROUGH IDLE

Did you replace the plugs with the same plugs (Manufacturer) as the plugs you had in there. Some cars are very picky with plugs. ie: some Japanese cars will only run well with NGK Spark Plugs. Try to use only what Subaru recommends in your engine for the best performance.

Rough engine idle under heavy acceleration. After a heavy rain, I started the car and the idle was terribly rough. Changed out the spark plugs and wires. Its much better but the condition still exists...

heh, you might want to change the title here as I am pretty sure you cant idle under heavy acceleration.
However I think you were on the right track with the plugs and wires. You didnt mention the cap though and that is usually the biggest culprit in damp weather. Put a new cap and rotor on it and see if that doesnt do the trick.
