SOURCE: 1997 gmc yucon 4X4 ball joint removal

Okay, more than likely you are going to need to take the upper and lower arms in to have the old joints pressed out and then pressed in. If you can buy the replacement joints and take them in, you will save a WHOLE lot of cash. You could also do this yourself if you have a hydraulic press or, if you can swing by an auto parts store that rents out tools......it looks like a modified c clamp.

SOURCE: how to remove upper/ lower ball joints on 1990 GMC Suburban 4x4

hit the steering knuckle where the ball joint shaft goes through it while u have the wedge/pickle fork inserted, u do this on the round side of the knuckle, this is what is called a "Morse Taper" hitting it distorts the hole a little and that lets the joint pop free. You need at least a 5 pound ball pen for this to work..

SOURCE: need instructions on how to replace lower ball

There is a large amount of stored energy in the spring. you can easily be seriously hurt. If you are asking this question, get a shop to do the job. It absolutely, positively must be done correctly or you risk loss of control of the vehicle.

I need to replace the lower ball joints. The new joints have a 4 bolt design.

That 4 bolt design is for the upper ball joint, the lower ball joint in press in, that the wrong one you have.

Changing CV Joint axles on both sides of my 4x4. Do I have too drop the lower ball joint or is their another way around this? thank you

You will have to unbolt them. But Check them first. They are likely loose . Blazers are hard on lower ball-joints and it will be a good time to change them at the same time if they are bad.

1997 GMC 4x4 Excessive steering problem major play (3 inches)

You best get under the truck and grab hold of the drag link, idler arm , and tyrod ends and find out whats loose. I would say its either pitmen arm or idler arm. Also chk.ball joints. If you find nothing wrong there the only thing left is the steering gear box.
