My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not shift to reverse or neutral. Reverse, neutral, and all the Ds have the Jeep just driving forward. When placed in park, car jolts slightly forward before stopping. I was told it would be the Neutral Satefy Switch. Any ideas? Where would the NSS be?

Sounds like the lockup torque converter has failed. Repair requires trans removal and possible rebuild if converter has contaminated unit. Have a trans shop verify!!

OK then the switch is part of the gear selector switch on the side of the trans where the shift linkage hooks up. here is a picture and part number.

Service the transmission and when you have the pan off, adjust the reverse band. It is either out of adjustment or worn out. Try the adjustment first and if it doesn't get any better, you'll have to have the transmission rebuilt.

The switch is on the transmission..It is usually a dealer item but you can get one from Rockauto.com for about 1/4 of what the dealers charge.

This could be an issue with the shift solenoid , but can also be caused by low fluid due to a leak, check your fluid. Is there a check engine light on, if there is it could be a solenoid issue.
