Hi,
Just bought my wife a Rover 25 1.4 iL '02 model.
Its done 37000 miles.
The garage have agreed to change the cam belt as part of the deal before we get the car.
I've just been reading on the internet that its good practice that the water pump is also changed at the same time.
How can I convince the garage that this is the case?
Their view so far is:
'You would do so only if there is a problem with the pump. The only vehicles where it is necessary is on certain Vauxhalls where the pump acts as a tensioner. All pullies and tensioners will be changed at the same time as the cambelt'
Are they right in their statement does anyone know?
Thanks.

Got a problem with my rover 25 1.4il clock keeps on playing up.
can any one give some pointers,
If all the other rollers and tensioners have covered 37000miles and they need changing why leave the water pump,it has as much tension on it as the rest of the tensioners......if they wont change it ask them to guarantee it against failure if they are that confident it shouldnt be a problem,or if it does fail will they pay for the replacement cylinder head/engine ?because it will destroy it !!!!!!

Thanks, Vagman54.
I've put your suggestion forward to the garage. Lets see what they say. I bet they say "Well it'll cost you £x Mr Webb for that extra bit" !!
What do you reckon they could charge me for something like that? Considering they are doing everything else for free (as part of the initial deal) and have got the thing in bits, there's also a 3 month warranty on all parts and labour so you'd wonder why they would quibble!
Thanks again.
They actually said:
The car is going through the work shop this week so if in there opinion the water pump isnt up to scrath then it will be replaced, The water pump, cylinder head and engine are all covered by the 3month AA warranty which is sold with the car.
So we'll see what happens when we pick it up Saturday.
Thanks again for your help, Vagman54.
