SOURCE: i can get power th the fuel pump when i run a hard wire from the battery to the relay but when i put the relay back in no power to the fuel pump

I have a question. Turn the ignition on you should hear the pump for about 3 seconds. then it should stop. this is normal operation. then when a signal is sent to the ignition that you are going to crank it then it switches on. I can see how this can seem like the pump is not working but after you crank it you should be able to hear the pump for about 1-1.5 seconds after the crank then it will stop. The pump will not turn on until it is told to do so by the computer.

fuel pump relay, or the simplest solution check the fuse block to see if you have a blown fuse. Most likely its the relay, but check the fuse block, under the dash and under the hood, maybe you'll get lucky. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 1991 ford f-150 fuel pump will not come on

remember the switch only gets power for 1 second when u turn the key on, the common problem is the ignition starter switch comes apart, it is located at top of the steering column near the bottom, drop the column down (2 nuts) and inspect the switch for separation.

01 buick lasabre can't get power to fuelpump after jumping fuel pump relay. There's one hot without ignition on.

Because you don't know what your doing . The gray wire goes to the fuel pump , the green wire is actually dark green with a white trace , this wire goes to the PCM - engine computer . You may have fried the transistor ( high side driver ) This supply's B+ voltage to energize the fuel pump relay . If you look on the bottom of the relay , you should see 4 set's of #'s 30 , 87 & 85 , 86 . 30 should have B+ voltage , 87 goes to the fuel pump . Jumping those two should make the fuel pump run . Hooking the gray to the drak green / white one won't do anything.

2000 olds siluette fuel pump not functioning, replaced fuel pump, tested relays, still dont hear it pumping. suggestions????

Do you have a multi-meter or test light?
There is a fuel pump fuse, in the fuse/relay distribution box, did you check that? That fuse and the fuel pump relay would have a "hot at all times" designation. Use the test light to see if the fuse has power at it. Next move to the FPR, pull it out and check for power. One of the relay terminals (it is #30 designation on the relay) would also be hot at all times (this terminal is coming directly from the fuse). Use the test light to check for that.
Look at the relay: on the side is a descriptor, or a diagram showing the relay terminals usage: #30 is the power feed, #87 is the feed on to the gas tank to the fuel pump. The other two terminals are the "coil side" of relay, #85 and #86, the coil side is what turns the relay on (from a signal from the pcm) and lets power pass to the pump.
If you have power at the relay terminal, you can take a short jumper wire and jump terminal 30 with 87. this will check the wiring circuit- it will send power on to the pump, and it should start working. If pump does not work, check for power on the gray wire at the gas tank connector. If no power, (and you still have the relay jumpered) then you have a bad wire from relay to the gas tank. If there is power on the gray pump wire, but still no pump when it is connected, then possibly the ground on your car for the pump is bad, or you maybe got a defective pump. Not likely, but it has happened before.
Now if you can jumper the relay and turn the pump on, we are down to the problem: apparently the coil side of your relay is not working-not turning the relay on, because of a missing signal from the pcm, or because the ground for the coil side is bad, or maybe just a bad relay.

How do i emptythe gas tank on a 2000 mercury mountaineer

Here are two ways:
You can take the filler hose off from the gas tank and put a siphon hose in there. Siphon it into 5 gallon cans.

Another way is to pull off the main gas feed line that goes from tank to the engine. Just find a convenient spot to pull the line apart, like possibly right before the fuel filter. Then you will need to activate the fuel pump to have it push the gas out. The easiest way to activate the pump is to find the fuel pump relay (under the hood in the fuse/relay block) and pull it out. Then use a short jumper wire into the two correct terminals where the FPR plugs in. This will automatically start the fuel pump and you can push all the gas out of the tank.
Most of the time, the two terminals at the FPR will be numbered 30 and 87. Look on the relay for terminal identification. You are jumping the main power feed line at the relay to the line going to the fuel pump. Do not guess, or you could damage your engine computer if you put the jumper wire in the wrong terminal. At the relay, you are jumping the power side of relay. The other terminals at the relay are for the coil side of the relay. Jump the power side!

How to drain your fuel without removing tank

Try lowering the tank enough to get the filler hose off, then you can get a siphon hose into the filler opening.

Or, you could open the fuel line at the filter, then jumper the fuel pump relay terminals. Pump will turn on and push gas out the line. Careful to get your jumper wire into the right terminals. You can damage the computer if you put voltage into the wrong terminal. The relay will have one hot at all times terminal- find that with a test light. Then you will jump the hot terminal to the terminal that has the fuel pump wire going to the gas tank. The relay should have terminal descriptions on it. The jumper wire goes with the two power side terminals, not with the coil side of relay. Post back if that's not clear.

ENGIN CRNKS BUT DOESNT TURN OVER. SOUNDS LIKE ITS

The easiest way to tell if your fuel pump is running is have someone inside the vehicle turn the key to the ON position... put your ear against the gas filler.. if you don't hear it buzzing your fuel pump is either bad or not getting power. If your fuel pump is bad, you will have to drop the fuel tank. be careful not to just let it drop down after you loosen the straps, this could lead to dammaged fuel lines.
Good Luck!

86 2.5 4cyl. won't run

I think you should probably rebuild the throttle body if you have not. Over time, some serious **** can build up in the body and also, the gaskets can shrink due to age which can cause fuel blockages in the body its self.
