Can alignment problem on an explorer cause noise whem hiting bumps and turning left

When I turn to left I hear a grinding noise from front end and when I hit a dip in the road I hear it. It started after I replaced upper control arms and lower ball joints

  • Anonymous Feb 21, 2013

just had a fresh alignment. problem still exist. i have narrowed the noise to the rear of the vehicle. any ideas. maybe stabalizer link

  • Anonymous Feb 21, 2013

You should have a stabilizer bar back there. Look at the links and also the frame bushings. You may want to take a look at the rubber bushings on the top and bottom of the shocks. One other place I can think of is body to frame mounts. Good luck Let me know what you find it might help someone else.

Any time you mess with those parts your messing with the alignment, just for the sake of your tires you should get an alignment. Have the alignment done then see if the problem is gone!

SOURCE: front upper ball joint replacement

The dealer's answer (if you are interested).......

The ball joint is pressed into the upper control arm and has a tapered stud for attachment to the steering knuckle. The ball joint stud is attached and locked into the steering knuckle using a special nut. The ball joint is a sealed-for-life type and requires no maintenance. If the ball joint is defective it will require replacement of the entire upper control arm.

Sorry.

SOURCE: Creaking Noise in Front Axel when going over speed bumps/dips in road

My grandfather has a 97 Ford Crown Vic that used to do the same thing. He had the front end greased when he got an oil change and that solved the problem. So thats probably all you need.

SOURCE: Upper and lower ball joint replacement

to remove the axles, remove brake caliper and disc, remove hub assembly, the center hub/axle nut and...(there are i think 3-4 bolts on the back side of the spindle to remove the hub), you may have to force the hub off the spindle with a hammer or air hammer... once the hub is out the axle should slide out of the front differential allowing access to the ball joint nuts for removal...

Abs light on/grinding and clunking in turns on front left side of 2003 ford explorer

Sounds like left front loose wheel bearing knocking ABS sensor out of range causing ABS light to come on and causing grind noise at same location. Grinding noise is probably rotor rubbing on calipar.

2005 Ford Explorer is making a grinding noise

I had some issues with my 2005 explorer left rear. It was making a creepy old door sound at low speeds and then a high pitched whisel at high speeds. That turned out to be a broken wheel bearing and had it replaced. Note each wheel has two wheel bearings. After that a new noise developed that sounded like metal scraping/ grinding metal. It end up being the brake dust cover got bent when they replaced the bearing and it was rubbing something, the fix for that was bending it so it didn't rub. I hope this helps.

Clicking noise in front end of car when going over bumps

Probably the front struts your sway bar links can cause the same noise if they are failing but you should have heard or felt somthing while turning regardless of bumps if the sway bar links were bad. Like the other people said start with the struts.

Something knocking in a steering system on my 98 civic

Suspect worn outer cv joint. Check the boot for any tears, damage or leaking grease. If these are present your cv joint will fail soon if it hasn't already. If you put the car into reverse and turn the wheels to a hard lock a bad cv joint will make a popping grinding type sound. Try left and right turns when doing this test.

I hit a bump on the right front side and it makes a roaring type noise and shimmies a bit .. can feel it under my left foot. also at times it will make that soud when i make a right hand turn... it is ...

Sounds like your left front wheel bearing is going bad. When you make a right turn, or compress the right front suspension over a bump, it forces the car to roll to the left. This loads the suspension on the left side, which will exaggerate a wheel bearing problem. Are you hearing the noise at all when travelling on the highway in a straight line? If so, it'd be either a grinding sound or a hollow humming noise. If you aren't, it may be that the bearing is just starting to go bad.

A quick test to see if the bearing is bad is to jack the car up at that corner, grab the wheel at the top and bottom, and shake it hard - if there is any movement or looseness, your bearing is shot. If there is none, it doesn't mean the bearing is fine, but it could be that it's just starting to go bad (which would be why you only hear it in turns and bumps, but not straight-line yet).
