Good explanation of symptoms.Thank you.

No assumptions.
Diagnose problem.
Pinch off the fuel return line.
Check fuel pressure--I don't wanna!PITA!
The fuel pump won't run if the fuel filter is plugged up.
Toyota's have a gas tank drain plug!!!!!!!!!
My '84 takes a 3/8 " ratchet. Cool.

There may be a fuel pump relay that is toast, but I suspect the filter, off hand.
A plugged filter will overwork the pump and cause the engine to run rich.

SOURCE: 1997 Neon dies, starts after electric fuel pump relay swapped

Hello, I would assume this is your fuel pump inside your tank. I would first however do some basics like a general tuneup. For starters I would replace your spark plugs and wires, rotary cap and button and check your fuses. Run some injector cleaner through your system. You know quick simple cheap things before you get to the fuel pump inside the gas tank which can be kinda expensive. The warm up then dies can be caused by, "blownout or fouled," spark plugs. I hope this gives you a general direction in which to go. A sidenote is that coil packs do not normally run an igntion code and I for one do not like them becuase they are expensive.

SOURCE: 91 integra not starting

Hi,welcome to fix ya. this could be caused by the main (PGMFI) relay under the dash it controlls the fuelpump . There is a circuit board inside it that cracks and causes the fuel pump to shut off,

Sounds to me like the fuel pump is worn out. They DO wear out. And even though they seem to be working, the brushes in the electric fuel pump may not be contacting all the commutator, thus making the pump weak. It may start the motor but can't maintain normal running pressure (27-35psi). Have you run the car out of gas shortly before this problem surfaced? If you have then it's your fuel pump. It was damaged when the tank ran dry. Even though the pump may seem to be working, it's still badly damaged and needs to be replaced.
Just as Matmenzies has stated, get a fuel pressure gauge and test the pressure. I'd start with a complete check of all your vacuum lines. Check for cracks on the vacuum hose that connects to fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. Also, if you can, get a hand operated vacuum pump to check the regulator. If you can place a vacuum on the regulator and it holds, I'd say move on the fuel pump and check it.
BTW, if the fuel filter has been changed, you may want to check to see if it was installed backwards! Some fuel filters are valved and will cause symptoms like this. However, this is an immediately noticeable mistake and you haven't provided enough info for me to say more. I'd pull it and check that it has any flow at all. You could have sucked in a big dirt ball and blown it right into the new filter, effectively stopping fuel flow. Then I'd blow out the fuel lines, just to be sure.
Start with these 2 things and post what you find. We'll go from there.

If the fuel pump operates with with a jumper at data link. That clears that the fuel pump is running. So check the EFI relay and the fuel pump relay. Now what is EFI relay:--- EFI Main Relay The EFI fuse supplies constant battery voltage to EFI main relay. The EFI main relay provides battery voltage to +B terminal of circuit opening relay (some models) and data link connector. Depending on model, EFI main relay may either be turned on directly by ignition switch or by M-REL terminal of Engine Control Module (ECM). The EFI main relay may also provide battery voltage to +B and +B1 terminals of ECM when ignition is turned on. The EFI main relay is located in engine compartment relay box. NOTE: Circuit opening relay is used on all models. Circuit Opening Relay Circuit opening relay controls fuel pump circuit. The Engine Control Module (ECM) receives an input signal at STA terminal when engine is cranking. Starter signal is also applied to STA terminal of circuit opening relay. Starter signal energizes circuit opening relay during cranking. Circuit opening relay then provides voltage to fuel pump or fuel pump relay. The circuit opening relay is grounded by ECM through FC terminal.Fuel Pump Relay & Fuel Pump Resistor .Fuel pump relay receives voltage from circuit opening relay and operates fuel pump. Fuel pump operating speed may be varied by Engine Control Module (ECM). When ECM grounds fuel pump relay, relay contacts close, and voltage is supplied through fuel pump resistor, to fuel pump. This changes fuel pump operating speed. ---------------------- As there are many other possibilities to check out of the mentioned procedure. But as you said fuel pump works with jumper wire and the fuel pump relay is replaced,on as per that i think the problem is the Fuel pump relay connections. The relay ground wire is connected to the ECM.If this wire is not connected properly or if this ground wire is got short or in-case not connected, then the ECM will not send signal to fuel pump relay to get started so it will not let the fuel pump start. But in jumper wire connection the relay is bypassed so no ground connection required and due to that fuel pump works. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation

1991 toyota 4runner 3.0 v6 starts runs 5seconds then dies will start back up for 5 seconds ata time

Hi Elmer, I'm glad to help! Elmer there are a lot of things that can cause a dieing problem. FIRST, see if it will stay running if you push the gas pedal a little bit then crank it. If it runs and stays running but dies when you release the pedal then here are a few things you can check. (1) You may have an "IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR" sticking and is stuck in the closed position. SOMETIMES this works, take sometime and tap on the motor and if it starts idling properly replace the motor. (2) You could possibly have a "THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR" that bad and does not signal the engine controller that the engine is at idle so it dies. If you can get it to idle then tap on the TPS when its bad it will idle the engine way up while tapping on it. If it does then replace the TPS. (3) You could also have a FAULTY or DIRTY "MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR" If the vehicle has one, some do some don't. If your vehicle is equipped with one, you can take it off and try cleaning the air flow sensor inside it. If it idles properly your good to go. If it doesn't idle properly I wouldn't rule out the sensor being bad. (4) You could possibly have a vacuum leak, vacuum leaks cause all kinds of crazy problems because it confuses the engine controller. If you can get it to idle, then you can take parts cleaner and spray around the intake manifold and if it dies right away then you have a vacuum leak that needs to be repaired. (5) You could have fuel issues, BUT, if the engine runs good while driving it down the road then you can rule this one out. These are the most common problems that occur and cause dieing problems. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Elmer.

Fuel pump not working unless i hot wire it still wont fire 1995 4 runner

Most likely your fuel pump needs to be replaced. If, when you turn the key to the run position, you can't hear it humming for 3 to 5 seconds, it is likely burnt out. Best way is to take the fuel cap off, and have someone stand at the cap and listen. You will need to drop the fuel tank to replace the pump. ( PS: Never use starting fluid on a gas engine. For one thing, it can cause an explosion, and for another thing if it backfires you can blow your intake gaskets etc out)

My 4 runner starts sometimes and won't other times, it justs cranks over but won't run

As with any no start issue, you will need to check for spark and fuel pressure when it won't start to know how to proceed.

Lights came on when car off. battery dies

I had a similar problem only my car would stay running after I turned it off. It also had a problem starting. if I turned the key just right it would start, otherwise it would not turnover. turned out to be the solenoid switch in my 1999 4runner.

When my car starts it stars briefly then shuts off. What could be the problem

I had this problem with my VW. The computer's anti-theft system did not recognize the chip in the key fob. I had to disconnect the car's battery to reset the computer. Only then would the engine stay running. I never found out why, the problem went away by itself.
Your problem could be something else, Is the check-engine light on? I assume that you can't tell since the motor won't stay running. The CEL will be lit when the ignition is turned on to verify that the bulb is not burned out. If it's a computer problem you may have to get the On Board Diagnostics code (OBD) read by someone with a reader.

My guess would be intake gaskets leaking. Did you take the intake off, or do it all in one piece?
