SOURCE: The locks on my 1997 Land Rover Discovery wont

The owner's manual for your Discovery clearly states that this is a design feature to keep you from locking the keys in the vehicle. The doors must be locked with either the remote keyless entry transmitter, or with the key itself.

SOURCE: battery went flat cannot unlock vehicle

If you have a battery charger, you could go underneath the vehicle and hook the positive cable to the positive lead on your starter, and ground the ground to the frame.
"Make sure the positive lead is not touching any part of the frame or the starter, except the positive lead".
I would not break a window to access the vehicle, but it is your choice; it's your vehicle.

Other than that, you could do as emissionwiz stated, and use a slim jim to unlock the door.

I personally would use the solution I provided, and use a battery charger. It would only take a few seconds to supply enough power to unlock your doors.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck.

SOURCE: land rover discovery central locking.

No, likely to be caused by the actuators in the lock mechanism failing usually causing the door to remain locked. The boor door can also fail this way, as do the front side doors. Replacement requires the whole lock unit to be replaced at a cost of roughly £60 a lock, and a hours work. Helps if you have small hands. Requires a full strip down of the door and you will need the lock unit, trim clips (a few quid) and a trim removal tool (tenner). You can bodge with a flat head screwdriver, but the tool does help prevent damage to the clips & trim panel.

SOURCE: battery went flat now wont take key code in

key code lock out usually happens when you have entered the wrong code too many times leaving the battery connected should allow the timer to run down for 30 mins so you can try again, it is cumulative though so the more you get it wrong the longer you have to wait. make sure battery is fully charged first.

CAN NOT DEPRESS BUTTON TO SHIFT MY 1997 LINCOLN OUT OF PARK SOMETIMES

Brake light switch , wiring etc... Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuit's using a wiring diagram an a DVOM -digital volt ohm meter ? Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on transmission / transaxle .Under subsystem click on shift interlock . Click the search button an then the blue link . Test the electrical circuits .
Shift Interlock System An ignition/shifter interlock mechanism is installed to prevent shifting the transaxle out of the PARK position unless the ignition switch is rotated to RUN and the brake pedal is applied. The floor shift interlock system consists of:
  • an actuator assembly integral to the ignition/shifter interlock cable assembly.
  • a bracket retaining the actuator.
  • the necessary wiring.
The solenoid is energized when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, locking the transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position. When the brake pedal is applied and the stoplight switch (13480) is activated, the ignition/shifter interlock actuator is deactivated and the transaxle range selector lever can be moved out of the PARK position.

Symptom Chart-External Controls
Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to perform pinpoint tests.
Symptom Chart-External Controls Condition Possible Source Action

I have a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. we pulled the key out of ignition without the car in park. the cover "Button" on shifter had gotten stuck under it. now the Steering wheel is locked, the Key will...

The key is most likely OK. So is the shifter. I would bet a $100.00 (that I can't cover) that the shifter is in a console "on the center of the floor". If so, the "electric/mechanical switch that you key cylinder actuates when it turns is on the top of the steering column, above the brake pedal. You will have to drop the column down with the 2 1/2 nuts, holding the column up to the dash, after the plastic cowls are removed. It will have a cable, that goes from the "electrical" switch, to the console. to activate/deactivate, the button on the shifter that depresses. Once it breaks, usually cloumn will lock "open" or "locked" .......no in between.

Key will not come out of ignition in 97 disco

I had this exact problem. The reason was the little push button on the automatic shifter that you press when you want to move it from Park - sometimes when you place it back to Park, it does not go out all the way - this prevents the key lock from releasing the key. Try to pull that button out all the way and it will release it. Cleaning around the button also helps.

97 Celica - Key stuck in accesory position

while in park, press shifter firmly even farther above park. Hold shifter and turn key.
The linkage may need adjusting. If this does not help the situation, then the pins inside the ignition are not getting pressed down because key is getting worn. You can try to tap around the ignition lightly with hammer to shake the pins loose.
