It could be the fuel filter too. Try to replace fuel filter 1st.

Will the fuel pump on a 99 Hijet only run for a couple seconds after the key is turned on, or should it run continuously?

Most fuel injection systems use a prime cycle of about 3 seconds, once the vehicle starts, the pump is supplied with power through the oil pressure switch.
This is done because if the vehicle was to be involved in an accident, and the engine stops, the fuel is cut off.

My 2004 ford explorer was running fine it started missing lights went off and now willnot start or turnover

You need to find out what is missing Fuel or ignition. and repair the issue.. you do this by cranking it and seeing if there is any spark going to spark plugs.. if you have spark you will need to see if you have fuel pressure. easy way is to squirt a little fuel into throttle body and see if fires .. if it does then you are missing fuel.. Then you need to find out if it is a fuel pump relay, fuel pump, or possibly something as simple as a clogged fuel filter. When yyou turn the key to on yyou may be able to hear the fuel pump come on for 1-2 seconds to charge the system. The fuel pump is in the gas tank.. so listen and see if tiu can hear it.. some time the pump will run but not pump fuel.

1994 Chevrolet Lumina 3.1 will not start - after starting with ether runs fine.... 1994 Lumina 3.1 will not start - cranks but won't start. While cranking shoot ether into intake - starts...

Had friend put OBD diagnostics to it and error code indicated fuel pump ????? No code indicates replacing any part . Indicates testing ! pressure and flow testing , voltage drop testing the electrical circuit etc... There is a check valve in the fuel pump assembly that is suppose to keep pressure in the fuel lines an fuel rail . When the check valve goes bad allows fuel to drain back into the tank. Try turn the key on an off a few times to build up pressure . The PCM energizes the fuel pump relay for two seconds at key on .

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.

It will start up but then start popping and stop running

Fuel is not continuously supplied in the line to prolong hte combustion cycle. There are 2 possible causes:
1- Fuel filter is clogging up preventing fuel supply to the fuel distributor. 2- Fuel pump is weak not delivering fuel at certain rate for the needed supply.

96 chevy lumina fuel pump changed now won't start

After you put the new fuel filter back in, make sure your fuel pump is actually pumping, either by listening for it to start when you turn the key on or by cracking the fitting at the fuel rail (after disconnecting your ignition hot lead first) I assume that you have checked the fuse/relay... rick
