1992 Crown Vic wont crank

New battery. Won't start (even with a jump) - *no click*. Headlights, radio, heater all work.

  • bpoetic Feb 17, 2009

Thank you MrMark . . you were on the right course, but it turned out to be a loose wire!

  • karmalovesyo Mar 27, 2009

I have the same problem. Replaced the altenator, starter, solenoid, and got a new battery. It still wont crank and it doesnt click. Could it be the ignition?

Check the battery cables and the grounds for the engine, frame and body.

  • browndogohio Dec 11, 2013

Run ground wire direct from battery negative to solenoid housing on starter.

  • browndogohio Dec 11, 2013

Add a CommentAlso install fender mounted relay for ignition wire on solenoid so a heavier gauge wire can be run from battery positive to ignition terminal on solenoid through the relay. Also install heavy gauge ground wire from frame to engine block as the aluminum transmission housing is a poor ground for the starter housing.

Check the starter solenoid. Usually mounted on a fender well. Find by following the + battery cable.

Hey, but sounds like a FixYa to me. I bet you found the loose wire by following the battery cable.

Glad you got it fixed! And thanks for using FixYa!

1992 toyota pickup won't start and battery won't charge

Sounds like your battery is just too dead, has enough juice to light up the system for a minute but cranking drains it and if it wont charge then deff fried, you could try removing the battery and starting the car with cables to confirm the starter still works. If a bettery is too dead then when you are jumping it, it takes to much of the power just trying to get through the battery.

My truck won't start. It won't turn over... only clicking noise.. even with a jump. the headlights work but very dimly.. orange lights next to headlights flash on and off dimly consistently as well...

When a battery is very low, even a jump won't work because the battery takes too much out of the jump. Take the battery out and have it charged up.
If it won't take a charge, get a new one.
But also make sure the battery terminals and cable ends are shiny and greased.

If you really want to be sure, put a voltmeter on it.
A good battery should be 12.5.
When you crank it should go down to about 10.
If it goes below 9, either the battery is too low, or the starter is draining too much.
If it never goes below 11, it is not draining enough, and the solenoid is probably bad.
If when you stop cranking, it comes back up to over 11, then the battery is good, so the starter is probably bad.

My crwn vic wont turn over sounds like wants to start but wont has half tank of gas, where is fuel filter, and fuel pump? my car is 1988.

If it doesn't turn over it may be your starter going. or a weak battery. start with that first, insufficient fuel pressure won't prevent you car from cranking, but weak battery or bad starter will. If you can jump it and it starts its probably the battery if it doesn't crank then its probably the starter. Good luck
