Well when i go to start it, it start for 2 second, the gas gauge or any other gauges work, and the check engine light do not come on, or any other lights come on in the dash,(ecept the ABS) the only light comes on.
The flashing light on your car is telling there is a problem. On some vehicles require a OBD2 code scanner for the diagnosis. Once you know the code, you can most likely repair it yourself. There are fairly easy procedures that most people are capable of repairing.

i just had the same exact problems as zeeladys. It was the crank sensor shorting out and causing the short to shut down circuits in the pcm, volt gauge, fuel gauge, no spark. Locate the connector to the crank sensor, it runs beside the distributor, with the key to the on position unplug the connector and see if the gauges come back on. If so, simply replace the crank sensor and ur off and running

I had a skim module go out in mine in the ignition, and I have a 2001. It's a 100 part, and now it starts fine.

SOURCE: 2001 jeep cherokee cranks, no start, no bus
I just had the same problem of my 2001 jeep cherokee not starting with no gauges responding and a "no bus" reading. After reading the responses I changed out the CPS and my jeep now runs great! however, it was not as hard as I thought it would be. Very easy with 7/16 bit and a 10inch extender. In and out in less than 5 minutes. Finding it was the hardest part. Blends in with the bell housing. I did this from under the jeep with a good shop light. I paid about $80 for the part here in Atlanta, GA
