Could be your alternator or a bad idler pulley. Is the transmission good? It may be the tranny or your differential whining.

Check the transmission oil level. That sometimes causes a whining sound.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: the heater fan on my 98 chevy silverado stopped

Run 12V directly to the motor and see if it will run, if it dosent than the motor is bad, if it does than the resister is bad, the resister makes the blower run and also regulates the speeds for the blower, but chanses are if it was making a high pitch squeel before it quit the motor went out.

SOURCE: high pitch whine

sounds like your one of your hubs on the front axle are staying engaged when you turn off the 4wd. By reselecting the 4wd high and back to 2wd hi it is causing it to release. Get it looked at these can get expensive if damage is done.

SOURCE: Have 93 Chevy G 30 HAve a High pitch whine that

This could be anything from the pump in the transmission to the alternator bearings/bushings to the power steering pump. Could be an idler pulley bearing, but I doubt it.
Hint: If the noise is very high-pitched, check the alternator. If it is a lower, medium-high-pitch sound that changes some when you turn the wheels, check the power steering pump. If it is almost like a moan or a "Whooo" sound, that's the transmission pump.

Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.

Loud engine whine (like a jet noise) from 2002 subaru forester

Have you crawled under the vehicle and personally inspected your exhaust line from manifold to tail pipe? The roaring sound usually occur when there is a hole in the exhaust line. I had it happen to my forester before. A hole half the size of a dime made my subaru sound like my old 74 chevy pickup.
