EGR System .....Not Ready

Battery went dead on 1996 Dodge Caravan before I got it smogged. new battery is in and after driving 800 miles, systems check before smog say's EGR System...not ready. Can't get it smog checked with-out EGR system ready. Any solutions? I just had my '96 S-10 pick-up scanned and I had a "not ready" for the egr, oxegen, and catalist. 2 out of 3 on a '96 will pass. How would I solve these errors or at least the cheapest one. (friday the 13th!)

I changed the converter and downstream 02 sensor, I then bought a new EGR valve. Damn light still comes back with the p1406 code. The local garage scanned it and said I needed a new EGR. ugh Now what to do?

Try running a tank of Supreme gas & a can of SEAFOAM in the gas tank. It might clear up your problem????? Go chance of it.

You can run it with the light on, it will not hurt anything, My Grandma run her car for year, and still running Great. You can buy another EGR-valve, but it will run fine with fixing it.

Egr did'nt read emission 2001 hyundai sonata 6 cylinder?

Hi howard lee
Did you disconnect the battery some time before the smog test? Did the smog inspector say he got a "system not ready", EGR testing not complete? If so drive it for another week or so and retest it.

Catalytic converter monitor will not let me smog car inspite of 1month driving and 700 miles on car

can be a bad cat /sensor / computer or wiring usually takes about a 100 to 125 miles on most vehicles to reset after clearing a code dead battery or replacing battery but thats if all systems are working properly if it was reset because of a code and that part of system hasnt reset than more than likely a problem with a component or system from original code

The system has to see a wide range of conditions before a smog test can be done. On most brands you have to drive at least 50 miles, at various speeds including stop and go, let it idle for 5 - 10 minutes, and run at freeway speed for at least 25 miles. It also has to reach normal operating temp of 195 degrees.

Was driving dash lights came on, dodge caravan 3.0 clicking noise comes from starter when i try to start

Have the charging system tested, it sounds like the battery went dead on you from a charging system failure. Charge the battery up enough to get to a local Autozone, Sam's club or O'reilly auto parts for the testing, it is free .

In order to set the monitor it the drive cycle 2 trip criteria that means you need to have a cold start up and reach operating temperature then another cold start up with a operating temperature reached and the drive for each one is part throttle hold for 2 miles and a decelration for the catalytic to get ready.when the cat is ready the evap runs.If you are loosing monitor at key off and everything reset you can see the referee let them smog it. The EGR and EVAP are almost impossilbe to get ready
