My dashboard lights and radio and dome light stop working-short somewhere-how can i figure out where

My lights and brake lights work. I just need to know where or how to start looking for where the short is. I put a fuse in and it burnt out right away that I took from my suburban. Please help or give some suggestions or diagrams please. Thank you!

Dashboard lights out and also brake lights. does that mean the battery needs to be changed on 1998 Toyota rav 4x4?

If all your fuses are good, start looking at your ignition switch. It's the one thing all those circuits have in common.

Something is shorted. You have to find out what and where the short is.

Speedometer odometerand gas gauge interior lamps not working

There are probably 2 wires for illumination and dimming (grey and brown, if I recall). If either of these are shorted or connected to other wires, problems can occur. BTW, older GM's had the dome lighting tied into the brake light system; No dome light also meant no brake lights. Make sure your brake lights work!!! Check fuses for instrument lighting and brake lights as well.

Make sure these wires are electrically isolated, then check/replace the fuse(s). This should take care of your problem. Good luck!!

All of a sudden today the dashboard lights (mph gauge, etc) won't go on. RPM gauge lights, also odometer, do light. At the same time, interior clicking to indicate directionals and hazard lights shut down...

It's hard for me to understand all of what you said, but I'd start with checking all of my fuses. Look for a blown fuse. Replace. If it blows again, you have a short somewhere.
