Over the past two days, I have been driving down the street and the truck will shudder as the the engine stops responding to the gas pedal being depressed. I can push the gas pedal and will start to go, then resume to idle. This continues for about 20 seconds, during which period all the warning / indicator lights on the console light up at once. The engine feeling is similar to running out of gas, where you depress the pedal and it starts to give a response then quits, repeating until you are entirely out of gas (at which point the car dies, obviously). However, this is not "an out of gas" issue, or I'd have it solved by now :-)
Similar note, is yesterday I was at a stop light and the car died, it did its rumble and just died. I am able to start it fine, but then it died immediately. The solution to keep it running was idling with the pedal down a bit to keep the engine revving, so when it cuts out, the engine is still spinning enough that it won't die. I was able to take off from the stoplight w/o an issue and this is an sporadic occurrence happening for 2 days now in 2 out of 4 trips I have taken.
Any help is much appreciated. Let me know if you need anything further. I bought this truck a month ago, so I am not terribly familiar with its history.
1999 suburban has same problem. Changed fuel filter. Worked about a month and returned this week. Engine seems to get hotter when this happening. Missing and sputtering. Next day started fine. Scared to take out for a drive. Could take all day to go to store and back. Where do you get a deal on a fuel pump?
I'am gussing that there is two differant trucks here. Well on the first truck with a problem, you say its not a fuel problem, Ok i would be checking the E.G.R. valve, when that gets pluged up it will act like that, it gets carbon build up and won't function, and won't idel and stall. Take off clean it up put back on with a screen gasget, they will know what your talking about at the auto parts store. Truck #2 you can get a pump at any auto parts store they all will be around same price. But do the same as i told truck #1 egr valve is over looked alot it just might solve your problem. if anything up your M.P.G. Both do a fuel pressure test, if that chk. out ok, at least you can elimanate that as a potential problem.
