Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 89 ford mustang gt I was installing an after market radio And I accidentally touched the ground red wire and 12v yellow and black wire together now my ground wire is not giving out power. I've checked the driver fuse box and the fuse isn't blown for the radio and I also know the fuse is working because the truck release works and that shares the same fuse with the radio help please I'm tired ff driving with no radio.

You are confused. The ground wire never carries voltage. From your description it sounds like you have hooked up the radio incorrectly

Check fuse 8 (10 amp fuse) in the under dash fuse panel. Make sure you have voltage to it on both sides of the fuse. This fuse feeds all of the items you listed.

I have an 89 camaro rs, I am getting power to the red power wire on my radio, but when I turn on the car I get no response and cd radio will not work. Any ideas?

there are two power wires to most radios. usually red and yellow. the red wire provides 12v when the key is turned on and yellow provides a constant 12v. both must have power to turn the radio on. there will be two fuses for the radio also so make sure both fuses are good. the only other thing that will keep the radio from coming on is the ground wire "usually black" that has to be connected to the ground in the factory harness or you can just connect it to any bare metal behind the dash

Radio power and ignition wire colors what are they?

Radio power is normally solid red.
I like to rerout my radio power to the cigarette lighter so I can have the radio on without the key in.
