2001 jag won't start. Security light is blinking

I just bought a 2001 jaguar s type 4.0. The old owner had to mess with tuning key on and off to get the security light to stop blinking. The problem has gotten worse. The lsecurity light blinks when key is in the second click position. Car turns over but won't start. The light blinks then flashes a code of 1-6. I only have 1 key. Any suggestions? Any one know what the 1-6 code means?

The problem you have is caused by the pats anti theft system is not recognising your key it may be the transponder or you may need a new key and get it programmed by a jag dealer or someone with the needed gear to do it with best advise take it to a jag dealer

Did you figure out what it was? It may be your key. Take it to a locksmith, or perhaps get it replaced.

Look under the boot handle near the number plate light and you'll see a hole where you can use your key to open the boot.

A tune up is a good idea.. Also depends when the last tune up was..
And yes - spark plugs are included in a tune up..

2001 jaguar s-type won't crank battery new and charged. Turn the ignition car won't make a sound

many things will cause no start problems could have faulty ignition switch.use test light see if power going to starter if not check ignition fuse to starter.if power going to starter, more likely starter solenoid or starter faulty.if ignition fuse okay and starter and solenoid okay still no start problem could be in the ignition switch or inhibitor switch faulty.code scan for faulty theft security system which will also cause no start conditions.

Jag 2001 s type turns over but won't start

Hi there:
You will have to pinpoint what the engine is missing... spark / fuel / compression.

All three of these are tested when the engine is being cranked over. There are two way of checking for fuel. Fuel pressure and fuel trigger. Both are very important and must be present for the engine to start. Fuel pressure is self explanatory. You just hook up the gage and see what the reading is. Fuel trigger is check with a noid light. The injector gets unplugged and the noid light gets plugged in to the injector clip. With the engine cranking over, this light must blink. This is the signal to the injectors from the computer. You can have all the fuel pressure in the world, but it wont matter if the injector is not pulsing gas into the cylinder like it should.

Compression tester, spark tester, fuel pressure gage and noid light are all accessible at your local auto store. All three tests play a very important part in diagnosing a no start condition. Be extremely careful when doing these tests.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

2001 jag stye turns over but won't start what could be the problem?

It could be as simple as a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter to something more in depth like a broken timing chain or bad sensors. Check the Fuses first to make sure they are all good then check the relays under the hood. If the fuses are good and the relays then spray some starting fluid into the air intake, If it fires then the problem is a fuel pump or filter if it doesn't you are going to have to test the Crank and cam position sensors to find the bad on and the coil pack.

2001 s type with check engine light on, when scanned it says there's a missfire in cylinders 3 & 4, tune up done problem not solved, after that transmission fault message pops up on dash screen, and car...

Could be bad coil packs. Best bet....take it in and have it checked out. Yeah....it's not cheap, but it takes away the guess work.

I had a similar issue last year when I had to jump start my jag. I didn't do it properly and blew out one side of the engines coil packs and everything you can imagine was showing up. Luckily, it was covered under warranty but at least I didn't mess around for days/weeks trying to figure it out on my own.
