Hello! Can you hear the fuel pump running when key is in Start? If not, lets check the one sensor that is a known failure when vehicles age...Located on the Throttle Body is the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor...It has a 3 wire connector...Orange (+5volts)...Dark Green/Orange (Signal lead)...And Black/Light Blue (Ground)...We need to eliminate this sensor first...Do you have a meter and a wee bit of experience using it? If so...Set it to read 5 volts...Using two safety pine push the point into the rear of the MAP'S in-place connector into the Dark Green/Orange and the other into the Black/Light Blue...Clip the (+) meter probe to the Dark Green/Orange safety pin and the (-) probe to the Black/Light Blue...Turn the key on...You should read somewhat less than +5 volts...Send a comment with results...See picture below of MAP sensor...Since I don't know which engine is in the vehicle 4.0L or 4.7L , I'll send both MAP"S.....Guru....Saailer
It is located on the right passenger side of the engine near the oil filter housing. It threads into the engine block. It may also be located near the distributor on some 1996 models. Disconnect the single wire connected to the sensor, and use a socket to remove it. Wrap the threads of the new one with teflon tape, and install the new one hand tight and then tighten it 1/4 turn more with the socket. Reconnect the electrical connection.

Go half way between the air cleaner box and the "carburetor". Up the 4" black air pipe, a wire harness plug plugs into the MAP sensor there. Also called MAS air flow sensor.
