My onboard computer says i need to change my a/c filter?

Which filter.p/n, name, help.

No that is just a gadget--forget it

The PCM has no ties to any filters

You should have a log book for preventative
maintenance & years of experience in knowing
what needs to be done & when on any vehicle

You treat all vehicles the same-- mileage or time wise

You change that filter every 3 years

I have the same car

Do it yourself

Renault scenic 3. I change display from mph to kph but changes back upon starting.also says traction control is on when it's not. And changes display colour and rev counter display and colour

If your Renault Scenic is changing the display settings back to the default settings when you start the vehicle, it is possible that there is an issue with the vehicle's settings or its onboard computer. It is also possible that the vehicle's software has become corrupted or that there is a problem with the display itself. I recommend trying the following steps to resolve the issue:
  1. Disconnect the vehicle's battery for several minutes, then reconnect it and start the vehicle. This can sometimes reset the vehicle's onboard computer and fix any issues with the settings or software.
  2. If the problem persists, try updating the vehicle's software by visiting a Renault dealership or service center.
  3. If the problem still occurs after updating the software, you may need to have the vehicle's onboard computer and display system checked by a trained technician.
It is important to have this issue addressed, as it could be a sign of a more serious problem with the vehicle's electronic systems. I recommend contacting a Renault dealership or service center for further assistance.

2011 Dodge Caliber, turns over, but won't start. Check engine & red lightening bolt lights are on. Changed plugs. Didn't help. Car has 75 on it, and gas tank is full. Any ideas?

Have the onboard computer checked and extract the code(s) that set the check engine light. There are a number of things that can cause your problem and the code(s) may help narrow it down. Possible items are the crankshaft sensor, the camshaft sensor, and the fuel pump, as well as the onboard computer itself.

How do you know if you need an oxgen sensor for a Nissan Xterra

The onboard computer maintains an air/fuel mixture at 14.7 to 1, if one of the oxygen sensors is failing it will change the air/fuel mixture for engine combustion. When this happens the onboard computer detects that the air/fuel mixture is out of range and sets the "check engine light" to come on, on the dash. When the computer is scanned for fault codes it will relay back information as to the cause of the problem. If an oxygen sensor is detected as operating out of its range, a specific code number is displayed through testing equipment that reads 'fault codes' and it will display which one is faulting. Hope this helps.

Changed plugs, oil oil filter airfilter and still not much power why

You must have missed the problem. There are a certain amount of things that the onboard computer can identify and Code with a "Check engine" light. Since you did not indicate you found a "check" light, then the problem must be with other causes that are not monitored by the onboard computer.

You should check the Vacuum level with the engine warm and running. Vacuum is not monitored, but is an important part of the operating engine. A simple Vacuum gauge is all that is needed.

A compression test of the cylinders will show if the valves and rings are operating properly. Low compression will result in low power.

You did not put in a Year or Model of BMW. A weak fuelpump or improper setting on a good fuelpump will certainly affect power whether it is an electric pump or mechanical.

Did you change the FUEL filter? Check tire pressure? Clean fuel injectors?

Some of the newer models use Electronics to time the valves and engine. On older models, timing chain stretch is possible unless you have gear to gear timing without the chain.

Be careful with cleaners through the air intake, some Electronics will be destroyed if anything but Electronics cleaners are used.

The use of subgrade fuel will affect power. Gasahol is becoming increasingly unavoidable, and lacks the punch that pure gas has.

If, after all of these things are checked, you do not find the cause, Dealers have computers which are attached to the car and the Mechanic DRIVES the car and all systems are recorded.

These devices cover far more than the onboard computer and the Mechanic can even ask questions of the car through the computer.
It may be a little expensive but consider this.

You have a car worth probably tens of thousands of Dollars and you have spent less than $100 on it in parts so far. These were normal maintenence items anyway and did not solve the problem. Now the guesses start getting expensive. It is probably cheaper to pay someone to test the car for the bad part, than to guess your money away on stuff you do not need.

I hope my solution helps you. Some of the compression tests can be done with a cylinder balance test Electronically for a preliminary idea. But if all cylinders are equally weak, you will need a pressure gauge test on each cylinder.

Please rate my solution and I am curious to what you will find, so once you do repair the problem; let me know and I can share with others having the same symptoms.

I have a Subaru Legacy GX from 2000. It jumps from idle 750 rpms to 1500-2000 rpm when i barely touch the gas pedal. Ive changed the throttle position sensor, and measured 0,5-4V from closed to open. Hope...

Hi there,

Erratic idle is often due to a vacuum or air leak in one of the engine systems, or faulty sensors sending incorrect data to your engine's computer.

As your vehicle is OBD-II compliant (ie has OnBoard Diagnostics) your engine computer will have stored the appropriate fault codes.

Before you start changing any components, always have the codes extracted from your onboard computer as this process will quickly identify which circuit (or sensor) is causing this condition. Changing your TPS may have been unneccessary.

Cheers,

MY CAR FAIL THE EMISSION TEST TODAY WITH THAT CODE ON THE ANALYZER MACHINE.

what code was displayed?emissions usually fail from worn engine or time for oil change with correct grade for model and mileage.Sparkplugs worn, air filter dirty, oyxgen sensor slow or faulty(this usually sets off the check engine light and a code).Fuel system sometimes need to be serviced also;new fuel filter and a quality injector cleaner. Also ensure that you are filling up with the correct fuel grade.Engine timing is important and is adjustable on earlier cars but later ones are governed by the computer onboard and timing adjusted basically by the knock sensor. These fault also, but again usually set a code.I hope this helps,or get back with any codes that are actually stored in vehicle computer, these will need to be read by a garage that has the correct reader to do this.the catalyic convertor is also one to check but just do the easy things first.Vehicles should have service/tuneup done every 6-12mths or 10-15000km,depending on age and how much use it gets.I hope this helps you get your test passed.

My 1999 Audi 1.8 auto dies when I take my foot off the throttle, happened once before, faulty electronics?

It sounds more like a fuel/air problem or an engine-management system problem (the onboard computer or a sensor ..). If it was faulty electrics the car would maybe not start or run erratically and misfire.

Start with the easiest first - check the air filter. It may be blocked/dirty. Remove the air filter and see if the same fault occurs. If it doesn't occur - the air filter needs changing.

Have a look on my website www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk and choose 'Volvo 960' from the drop-down list. Yes, your car is an Audi, but it may just need a clean inside of the airbox and connected tubes. There's a couple of photos on my website that may help.

If the same fault occurs after removing the air filter and a clean up, it may be something like the idling sensor at fault. The air/fuel mixture on a car is controlled electronically. There are actually a number of sensors (such as the camshaft timing sensor) which can cause similar problems to what you describe.

It doesn't sound as if you have a big problem. Rather than change sensor after sensor in an attempt to cure the problem (and waste money) - the cheapest option is to take the car to a workshop and pay them to connect the management system to their computer. Let them identify the fault and you can do the repair work yourself.
