Easy to figure out put transfer case forward if you move easy this is high try to turn if you are in 4x4 it will pull front and rear tires pull a little more toward the seat should go into neutral pull again it will be 4 high pull one more time toward seat should be low on the older chevys you my have to be in neutral the transmission to get transfer to lock in there are only 2 wheel 4 high 4 low and neutral you will know the differance

SOURCE: 95 chevy k3500 will not shift into 4hi

Hi ..i had the same same problem in my k3500,check 4x4 fuse first .if thats blown replace it if blows when you put in 4x4 go under the car and unplug the actuator at the front diff.go back in the cab and put another fuse in, shift into 4x4 if the fuse does not blow this time you will need a new actuator.
thats what happened with mine and now 4x4 is sweet.i thought mine worked to at the start until i got bogged and noticed my front wheels wernt turning.

SOURCE: 95 chevy blazer 4low works..but when shifting into

My guess is that it is probably the actuator on the front diff. It may also be the buttons. I had the same problem with my 1999 silverado which it turned out to be the actuator.

There is an actuator located in the front differential " About 15 minutes to change " . By transfercase actuator , do you mean the Encoder Motor " transfercase shift motor ? 9 times out of 10 it is either the front differential actuator or the transfer case encoder motor

2000 ranger 4x4 blinking lights

There is a black box behind the jump seat on the drivers side. You have to remove the panel to get to it. There is a button on the box that resets the shift motor on the transfercase. It this don't fix the problem, then the shift motor is going bad. I hope this helps.

Wont shift into 4x4

Two posibilities, the manual silonoid(could be operated by vaccum or electric 12V) on the front axle is not operating or the transfercase is not shifting into 4H. Transfercase manual or electric ? Jack up the front end put it in 4WD and see if the front end is locking ? Wheels should spin the opposite dirrection or turn the front driveshaft, that means it is working and the problem is in the transfercase shifting into 4WD Mike n Texas

Shifter all the way forward is 2 high, 4 high is one back, neutral is next, then 4 low you have to push down and back. Transmission must be in neutral to shift transfer case into 4 low.
