I'm trying to remove the fuel filter clips on a 1995 pontiac firebird whats the trick
The clips will be one of two varieties, which may depend on if you have a V6 or V8. Here's both solutions:
On one type, you should be able to just squeeze the clip with your fingers with firm pressure. If this doesn't work, then you my have to use channel locks or pliers to squeeze the clip. The fuel line will be held in by an O-ring more than likely, and it'll be a little tough to pull apart.
On the other type, you have to use quick disconnect tools. You can find them at any auto parts store. There's different kinds, the cheapest being a pack of different colored plastic ones. They're really cheap, maybe a few bucks.
The colored plastic will designate the size of the fuel line clips. Usually they come in packs of four...blue, red, white, etc.
Just insert these with the flange facing the clip, slide it in, and you'll feel it unlock. Pull apart the fuel line from the filter.
NOTE: Make sure you release the fuel pressure. And make sure you have rags as well as a container to catch the gas. If it's under pressure, it WILL spray you with gas, so be sure to release the pressure using the schrader valve on the fuel rail that feeds your injectors.
The fuel filter will probaby be a little stiff getting off since the O-ring will be old. Just make sure you wrap the line in a rag and avoid getting sprayed. Eye protection is recommended.
Napa and other parts stores carry a tool to remove the clips. If you try to do the without the tool they could break and them lines are expensive
