My security system shut my car down, buick said i need a new steering column because it didnt recognise the keys. Did that put a new one on and the car still wont turn over, but if you by pass the security it will turn over but cut off. What should i do now. What can i do to fix this problem
Man these buick dealerships are making a killing nowadays, the keys have a chip in them that helps a sensor in the steering column recognize that those are the right keys for that car, it's an anti-theft device that sometimes backfires, usaully the culprit is a damage chip in the key, because keys get thrown around and mashed up with other keys in peoples pockets, the key it self is not cheap but it is cheaper than replacing steering column. Get a new key and see if that helps, they should have provided you with a new key if they replaced the steering column and the sensor inside of it. I think dealerships aren't making enough money selling cars in this economy and are making frivolous repairs that don't help fix problems and charge a lot of money in the process
The ignition key cylinder in a Buick
unlocks the ignition and allows the Buick's engine to start. The
cylinder contains a switch on the end of it (inside the cylinder) that
sends an electric signal to the starter motor. When the ignition key
cylinder fails, the Buick won't start. When this happens, you'll need a
new ignition cylinder. Purchase replacement cylinders from Buick.

Thanks but yes I have new keys and new steering column. The dealership didnt do the work because they wanted to much money and I have friends that work in shops that order what I needed and did the work but now I have the same problem. I just need to bypass the security system then put a after market one on it.....Do you know anyone who can work on that for me....
won't do anything but security light comes on, won't turn over.
Car will not turn over. Put new starter and solenoid in and still won't do anything. Could my security system be messed up.
