So this morning I stop to fill up with fuel and I can't put the nozzle in the tank! ... station where their fuel nozzle didn't "fit" the capless thing so the door didn't open. ... You need the Ford funnel. ... Like they're saying, if the pump end isn't big enough it won't hit the latch. ... You'll get the nozzle stuck in the filler.

Might need the charcoal filter canister replaced or one of its vents are clogged

most commonly the evap systems vent solenoid is plugged or inoperable causing pressure to build in the fuel tank as you fill up. this high pressure triggers the gas pump nozzle to shut off as it would if the tank had been filled. replace canister vent

Check the evap fuel canister...make sure its not clogged with dirt or fuel. Check the evap canister vent solenoid- it should be open with the car off.

Due to the different shapes of fuel tank filler necks in cars & trucks, it may be necessary to vary one or more things to allow fuel to flow uninterrupted until the tank is really full.

The main problem can come from the new "vapor recovery" gasoline pumps. These pumps and hoses actually recover gasoline fumes from your tank as the liquid gasoline displaces the air / fumes in the tank is it is being filled. If gasoline flow is started at full blast, it can splash back slightly, causing liquid to be pulled back by the pump - so it shuts off. So, start with a slow rate of filling and gradually increase flow rate to maximum over 5 to 10 seconds. If it still shuts off, try some of the suggestions below.

First, don't fill at maximum flow rate from the pump - that is, don't set the nozzle for wide open. Select one of the other "latches" on the handle instead of the fastest flow and let the tank fill entirely at this rate.

Second, you should experiment a bit with the length of nozzle that you push into the tank's filler neck. If you push it in too far or too little, the pump nozzle can do what you're describing.

Third, try twisting the nozzle slightly so that it doesn't hang straight downward - a little to the left or right may provide a solution.

Lastly, try a different gas station. Their pumps may not be so picky with your tank's filler neck.

Fueling it should have nothing to do with the engine light. I feel the reason the nozzle shuts off is because when you fill your tank there has to be a certain amount of air release from the tank while filling. You may have no air release causing air pressure. This air pressure will shut off the nozzle. There should be an air release line hooked to your tank I feel.

Need to inspect/clean/replace the fuel tank breather. Try this first, as this being faulty will create to much back pressure in the tank, causing the fuel nozzle to shut off quickly. Also, when filling, try holding the fuel nozzle upside down, no known reason why it works, but it sometimes does!

you have a breather line that could be clogged. Try not putting the nozzle all the way in when refueling so air can get out.

Sorry if this gets posted twice. I have a 95 Saab 900, which I just acquired. I can get only about 4 or 5 gallons in at a time. hi if you look into filler pipe you will see a flap/restrictor just inside this is to prevent wron fuel filler nozzle from entering so unless you put the correct fuel nozzle fully into tank fill pipe and this pushes flap open you will experience slow filling ALSO? to put fuel in tank the air inside must be able to displace emit from tank ok this is done via a hose from tank and is usually clipped along side the filler pipe under wheel arch below filler check and ensure this pipe is clear and also free from kinks? as this if blocked will not allow displacement of air from tank as fuel level increases? hope this is clear enough for you to understand?
