First box went BANG while reversing and locked up. It was subsequently OK in forward gears to drive. Second box was damaged in the garage by the mechanic checking the vehicle for road worthy, I drove it there with reverse operational, drove it back with a RWC and no reverse, mechanic said it was my problem and told me off for bringing it to them without a reverse gear ??? so work that one out, I cannot

Sounds like you have a solonoid out in your transmission. No simple fix for this. You will more than likely have to drop the transmission to replace solonoid.
SOURCE: 2nd and 4th gear gone in my mit spacewagon also reverse
yes but it will cost a lot more than changing and it usually is not a sucess.

Check the oil level in your gearbox, and check your clutch, for the right setting, it needs adjustment. Did this solve your problem, give us some feedback thru
fix ya or your vote for the solution.

register yourselves with the pajero Owners club - there's a section dedicated to the Junior. http://www.pocuk.com/ As for your slipping automatic transmission it's likely to be a faulty electronic contol unit (ECU) it's located in the passenger side footwell behind a black plastic cover. Mitshibushi do a replacement part, or try a specalist *** grey import parts supplier in the UK. Failing that try a breaker (dismantler). I've been told the ECU for the automatic car is fitted to manual cars as well.
A new ECU fixed my Juniour in 5 minutes, after I'd replaced the oil, cleaned the screens and done all the usual 'garage' suggestions...
