I recently had my engine replaced and now the car will not shut off unless you unplug the coil pack. My mechanic (who I question after taking forever on the replacement) thinks I should change the ignition but I see Impala's have had issues. Has anyone came across a situation where the car would not shut off?
Programming problems with the PCM. Anytime you change an engine or other major component it must match exactly with the PCM . If the pcm was replaced with the engine, then the message being received from the ignition module is not recognizable and the pcm will not shut off the engine. Either the PCM has to be re flashed by a professional to match your old ignition module.

Sounds like possibly the catalytic converter is plugged up. It's under warranty. Dealer will replace free if it's the cat.

Pop off the black ring around ignition lock small screwdriver willl do. Remove dashboard plastic to expose 2 bolts holding ignition assy. Can be tedious. IF you can turn the key turn it to Start. In the plastic housing there's a 1/4 by 3/8 hole. push in a screwdriver which will push in a button on ignition cylinder and allow you to slide it out. The hole is located at 4 o'clock if we agree that the 2 wiring harness plugs are at 6 o clock and its 1 and 1/4 inches below the face of ignition cylinder. If you dont feel that the screwdriver is pushing in that "button" rotate your key until it does. Then just slide the cylinder out.

You have wet ignition components. Get an air hose and blow dry everything you can get to. You may even have to let it sit to dry out.

There is a switch relay that plugs behine the ignition switch cylinder. You would have to take apart the dash console to take it apart to replace it.Also helps solve a few problem on the 2001 chevrolet impala, with heat gauage not working and a/c not blowing cold air anymore.Replacing it, should fix the problem with that.
