If the Service Engine Soon indicator light stays lit after you've started the engine, the On Board Diagnostics system (OBD) has detected a malfunction of the vehicle emissions control system. Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.
If indicator light is blinking, an engine misfire may be occurring, which could damage your catalytic converter. Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration and deceleration), and have your vehicle serviced immediately.*
The Service Engine Soon indicator light illuminates when the ignition is first turned on (prior to engine start) in order to test the bulb, as well as indicate whether the vehicle is ready for Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) testing.
Normally, the Service Engine Soon light will stay on until the engine is cranked, then turn itself off if no malfunctions are present. However, if after 15 seconds this light blinks eight times, it means that the vehicle is not ready for I/M testing.Check this link out Gary.

In most cases the check engine light indicates a sensor is bad. Have a mechanic scann it and if so replace it.....hope this info helps and if so Please leave rating on this post and good luck..

Service engine soon has nothing to do with service or maintenance . Emission's OBD 2 engine managment system . Light on ! DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored . Your don't know THAT ! Your best bet , take it to the dealer .

this light may be the check engine light. it's misleading. I've seen two service engine soon lights in cars. one for check engine, one for service. have it checked with a scanner

The Service Engine Soon indicator light tells the Service tech that the Pathfinder's ECM detected and Issue with the engine's management system. Your going to have to get the Pathfinder Scanned for DTC codes so you can addressed the issues that is in the ECM's history. Once the issues have been addressed, the Service engine light will reset it self or the service tech can reset it for you. The light will stay on or come back if the issues have not been repaired. Sometimes you have to wait a week for the light to go off, the computer has to go through several start/run/stop cycles.

I'm sorry to say that you will need to see a dealer or repair shop so they scan your ABS for trouble codes first and then find your problem.

I would have the codes pulled. Some autoparts stores will do this for free. there may be a code stored in the cars ECM (computer)

When was the last time you replaced the O2 sensor. Most people negelect replacing it every 50K or sooner if it is all short hops.
